Pay Transparency:
The anticipated starting salary range for California-based individuals expressing interest in this position is $43.46/hr.
Salary to be determined by the education, experience, knowledge, skills, abilities and location of the applicant, as well as internal and external equity.

Overview:
KNX News 97.1 FM, Southern California's agenda-setting multimedia newsroom, is looking for a forward-thinking writer to help create engaging, modern-sounding, relatable news shows that are both informative and entertaining.
Responsibilities
What You'll Do:
• Write and update compelling scripts, incorporating the best sound bites, music, sound effects or other elements to make stories, headlines and teases stand out at all times.
• Work in concert with editors, producers, and hosts to build shows that are engaging and flow naturally.
• Search for the strongest and most relevant source copy and audio to build stories on.
• Conduct and edit interviews.
• Monitor social media, wire services, websites and other broadcast outlets.
• Propose story ideas and contribute to daily and long-term coverage plans.
• Collaborate with editors, producers, anchors, reporters and news assistants to create attention-getting content.
• Alert on-duty editor and producer, and/or management, to content that's questionable or that may be in violation of FCC, corporate or station policies and regulations.
• Related newsroom duties as necessary
Qualifications
More About You:
• The right person for the job is an aggressive, energetic, enthusiastic, and creative team player and self-starter.
• Must have the desire and ability to write quickly, clearly, concisely, creatively, conversationally, AND with an edge, while under unrelenting deadline pressure.
• Must work well with others and interact well with the public.
• Prior major-market news writing and producing experience required. Strong multi-tasking skills required.
• Strong computer and social media skills required.
• Must be available to work all hours, overnights, weekends and holidays, and be amenable to schedule changes. This may include last-minute changes, as well as long-term adjustments.
• Familiarity with Southern California, especially Los Angeles and Orange counties (i.e. politics, geography, lifestyle, culture etc.) preferred.
• Must join the Writers Guild of America.
Physical Requirements:
• Ability to sit, stand, and work at a computer for prolonged periods, with reasonable accommodations provided as necessary.
• Occasional lifting of materials up to 20 pounds, such as office equipment, documents, and presentation materials.
• Visual and auditory ability to respond effectively to stakeholders, manage presentations, and participate in meetings.
