PMC: Payroll Specialist
Penske Media, the publisher of world-renowned media brands including Rolling Stone, Billboard, Variety, The Hollywood Reporter, IndieWire, Deadline Hollywood, Robb Report, & more, is hiring an organized and detail-oriented Payroll Specialist. This role is crucial, as it will be responsible for HRIS updates, assisting in payroll processing, and supporting various Payroll functions. The ideal candidate should possess strong analytical skills, exceptional organizational abilities, and a thorough understanding of Payroll principles and practices.
Essential Duties/Responsibilities:
• Process payroll transactions accurately and timely, including verifying timekeeping records and deductions.
• Manage and update HRIS database records and ensure the accuracy of employee data.
• Administers payroll processes, including onboardings, changes, and terminations.
• Prepare and analyze various reports, such as headcount, turnover, and payroll summaries.
• Assist employees with payroll and employment inquiries and resolve issues promptly.
• Maintain compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations.
• Process required documents through payroll and insurance providers to ensure accurate recordkeeping and proper deductions.
• Performs customer service functions by answering employee requests and questions.
• Audits payroll, benefit deductions, or other payroll taxes and recommend corrective action.
• Prepare and maintain regular merit increase reports to ensure compliance and track progress effectively.
• Manages internal records, including preparing, issuing, and filing company documentation (e.g., employee records, employment agreements, offer letters, etc.).
• Participate in payroll projects and initiatives as assigned.
Qualifications:
• Proven experience as a Payroll Specialist or in a similar role with a concentration in HRIS updates and payroll administration.
• Strong understanding of payroll processing (payroll tax a plus).
• Proficient in HRIS systems (e.g., UKG) and MS Office Suite, particularly Excel.
• Excellent organizational and time-management skills.
• Excellent attention to detail.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to act with integrity, professionalism, and confidentiality.
• Thorough knowledge of employment-related laws and regulations.
• Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software.
• Proficiency with or the ability to quickly learn the organization's HRIS and Payroll systems.
Experience:
• Minimum of 2 years of experience in payroll is preferred.
• Excellent time management, organizational skills, and attention to detail.
• Proficient with or the ability to quickly learn payroll software.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Typical wage range: $70k - $75k.
