Job Description
The Delacorte Press imprint of Random House Children's Books/Penguin Random House has an exciting opportunity for an Editorial Assistant to join their team. The Assistant will provide administrative and editorial support across an array of books including middle grade and young adult fiction.  This position provides the opportunity to learn about the overall editorial process and the inner workings of a large publishing house, while benefiting from being a part of this unique focused imprint. In this role, the Editorial Assistant will assist on a variety of genres.

Specific responsibilities include:  
• Provide general administrative support including scheduling meetings, routing contract and payment requests, generating profit and loss statements, maintaining deadlines, ordering author copies, handling mailings, completing reprint correction forms, filing expense reports, and fielding questions from authors and literary agents.
• Assist in the acquisitions process by logging incoming projects, reading and evaluating submissions, collecting sales data, providing competitive title research, and writing declines.
• Communicate with authors and literary agents, as well as a variety of internal departments such as Design, Managing Editorial, Production, Publicity, and Marketing. 
• Format manuscripts for production, drafting transmittal memos and copyright forms, and tracking copyedits and page proofs.
• Learn editorial skills, including line and structural editing, under the guidance of the editors, and offer creative input.
• Assist with drafting cover copy, preparing title information sheets, cover memos, and other materials.
• Updating online metadata fields (description, author bio, reviews, etc.) for current, forthcoming, and backlist titles and assist in the creation of imprint presentations and with the imprint's social media channels.

• Self-starter with impeccable attention to detail
• Interest in middle grade and young adult fiction is preferred
• Proficiency with Microsoft PowerPoint, Excel, and Word 
• Prior internship or related experience is a plus

*This NYC-based role is a hybrid position and will require someone in commutable distance to come into the office to help with book mailings, attend in-person meetings and events, and assist with other essential in-office duties as needed.
