Editorial Assistant / Assistant Editor, Penguin Workshop (Open to Remote)

Penguin Workshop is seeking a creative and motivated editorial assistant or assistant editor (depending on experience) to work with the Publisher and Associate Publisher/Editorial Director across a range of formats with a focus on commercial middle grade fiction, picture books, and graphic novels. This position will provide administrative and creative support for existing titles as well as assist with new acquisitions and internal project development.

Responsibilities:
• Providing editorial support for Publisher and Associate Publisher/Editorial Director
• Evaluating manuscripts and book proposals
• Assisting with the project acquisition process: request pricing from Production, run profit & loss statements, research competitive titles, generate acquisition / contract paperwork, update the books system, pull sales figures from Bookscan, and stay on top of internal deadlines
• Tracking industry trends in media, publishing, and the children's retail market, to create commercial books
• Working with the Publisher and Associate Publisher/Editorial Director to develop original publishing ideas
• Writing cover copy, catalog copy, web copy, publisher positioning sheets, and title information sheets
• Liaising with production, design, and managing editorial departments

Requirements:
• Passion for pop culture, media, and entertainment.
• Ability to work in a high-volume, deadline driven environment
• Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage and track several projects simultaneously through to the end
• Ability to demonstrate attention to detail
• Exceptional writing and copywriting skills

The salary is $48,000 for the Editorial Assistant level and $53,000 for the Assistant Editor level. The Assistant Editor level will be considered with at least two years' experience at a major book publisher. All positions are currently eligible for annual profit award or bonus, subject to Company results.

The salary range listed is specific to each particular open position and takes into account various factors including the specifics of the individual role, and candidate's relevant experience and qualifications.
