Editorial Assistant, Random House Children's Books (Hybrid)

Random House Children's Books seeks an Editorial Assistant to provide administrative and editorial support to a Senior Executive Editor and Executive Editor. This is a unique opportunity to gain experience in both the world of commercial middle-grade & YA fiction​ and the world of platform-driven celebrity publishing. As Editorial Assistant, you will support on a wide range of projects encompassing picture books to middle-grade and YA fiction and non-fiction. You will work closely with book designers, managing editorial, copyediting, and production, as well as the larger editorial team, to ensure that books are high-quality and delivered on schedule. A passion for children's books is a must, and an interest in pop culture and genre fiction are highly preferred.

We are looking for a highly motivated self-starter who loves books of all types and is invested in the process of bringing them to a wide readership, has strong writing and analytical skills, communicates clearly, and will be an active participant on a collaborative team.

Responsibilities include: 
• Providing administrative and editorial support throughout the publishing process, from conception to publication to backlist management 
• Performing administrative tasks such as maintaining schedules, spreadsheets, and internal data systems; mailing packages as needed; completing forms; ordering books for the editors and authors; scheduling meetings; preparing copyright notices, and drafting contracts and payment requests
• Assisting with the project acquisition process: request pricing from Production, run profit & loss statements, research competitive titles, generate acquisitions paperwork
• Reviewing and tracking manuscript submissions from literary agents, including evaluating manuscripts and drafting readers reports and rejection letters as requested 
• Corresponding with authors, illustrators, agents, and other industry colleagues and acting as a proactive point person on everyday requests
• Writing cover copy, catalog copy, web copy, publisher positioning sheets, and title information sheets
• Tagging and formatting manuscripts and assisting in reviewing books at different stages of production
• Helping to ensure that books remain on schedule and traffic materials to other departments as needed

• Highly organized with an aptitude for learning systems 
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Consistent follow-up and follow-through, and the ability to multi-task and prioritize multiple deadlines
• Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, Adobe, PowerPoint 

This is a hybrid position with in-office responsibilities, which will include but not be limited to attending in-person meetings and preparing mailings for authors and out-of-house editors.  We will consider candidates who can work from a commutable distance to our offices at 1745 Broadway, which includes the tri-state area (NJ, CT, & PA).   

The salary for this position is $48,000. All positions are currently eligible for annual profit award or bonus, subject to Company results.
