Payroll Assistant (6 Month Contract)

Job Description

The Payroll Assistant will support the Human Resources payroll function through administering the effective processing of payroll groups and cycles, payroll system maintenance and processes. The Payroll Assistant oversees, executes and verifies all payroll calculations and actions, and acts as an escalation point for employee questions and requests related to their pay.

This role is part-time (28 hours a week) and will be on a contract basis of 6 months.

Qualifications
• Processing of bi-weekly Canadian payroll, included but not limited to:
• Completing the full-cycle payroll process, including: data entry relating to payroll, supporting data uploads, ensuring payroll timelines and processes are followed timely and accurately, resolution of issues and discrepancies and signing off of final payroll reports to managed service team
• Participating in the onboarding process for new hires joining Canadian payroll
• Process terminations and changes in payroll status
• Monitoring HR/payroll system accounts including managing payments to government agencies, external parties and other required transactions
• Processing savings plan enrollment forms and coordinating withdrawals (employee requested) with the benefit provider
• Updating benefit provider database re: benefits enrollment, amendments, salary adjustments etc.
• Keeping the necessary procedures up to date for the proper functioning of the payroll process
• Ensuring payroll processes are compliant to internal and external requirements
• Supporting all year end activities including creating all year end forms
• Prepare, analyze and reconcile various bi-weekly payroll reports
• Respond to employee inquiries regarding payroll and benefits as required
• Support payroll and HR data related ad-hoc and special projects.
• Minimum College diploma in a related field of study; Payroll Compliance Practitioner (PCP) designation or equivalent experience
• Minimum 3 years of experience in administering payrolls, including HR/Payroll system administration experience
• Demonstrated expertise of payroll processes/calculations and demonstrated knowledge of applicable payroll legislation and best practices
• Proficient in Windows environment with strong Excel skills
• Must be organized and detail-oriented with ability to meet deadlines
• Possess the research skills to identify discrepancies and ability to follow the proper channels to resolve discrepancies in a timely manner
• A demonstrated ability to communicate effectively and establish trust quickly
• Superior attention to confidentiality and quality
• Experience with SAP is preferred.

Desired Characteristics:
• Experience with Ceridian Powerpay and Ceridian Dayforce is strongly desired
• Ability to analyze data and recommend potential solutions

• Excellent customer interaction and communication skills.
