Job Title: Urban Youth Academy- Facility Assistant (Groundskeeper) - Seasonal
Job Summary: The Kansas City Urban Youth Academy is a nonprofit organization with the mission to empower Kansas City's urban youth to unlock their potential and become the leaders of tomorrow through baseball and softball.
This position is housed at the Urban Youth Academy (UYA) and is responsible for preparing and tearing down fields for all Academy games, including high school, collegiate games, and other scheduled events. The typical work schedule is on weekdays from 5:00 to 8:30 PM or until the conclusion of nightly activities, with additional weekend work requiring varying start times and shift lengths.
Position Accountabilities/Responsibilities:
• Field Preparation: Receive daily field usage schedules from the Manager, Facility & Operations and prepare fields accordingly.
• Safety and Emergency Protocols: Ensure all safety protocols are followed during field preparation and maintenance, regularly inspect equipment to ensure it is in safe working condition and be familiar with and able to execute emergency procedures if necessary.
• Equipment Management: Move the necessary equipment for each game or event, including pitching mounds, bases, and temporary fencing.
• Policy Enforcement: Monitor games and enforce facility policies, such as prohibiting seeds, shelled nuts, and metal cleats.
• Cleanliness Maintenance: Ensure the cleanliness of dugouts and fields by emptying trash and removing litter as needed.
• Event Coordination: Use the lobby TV and TripleSeat scheduling software to reference daily events and ensure the correct team or party is on their assigned field.
• Field Maintenance: Drag, chalk, water the dirt infield as directed, and repair wear areas such as batter's boxes and bullpens.
• Tarp Management: Assist in placing and removing the infield tarp as needed.
• Professional Representation: Always represent the Royals organization in a professional manner
• Communication: Maintain clear and positive interactions with players, parents, coaching staff, and officials.
• Organization: Maintain the cleanliness and organization of the equipment room, storage pods, and sheds.
• Additional Duties: Perform other tasks assigned, such as monitoring and performing laundry daily or as necessary to ensure the facility has clean towels.
Position Qualifications, Skills, and Experience Required:
• High school diploma required.
• Must be 18 years old.
• Able to adapt to changing conditions, including inclement weather
• Clear and effective communicator
• Superior interpersonal skills
• Strong organization skills
• Demonstrated experience taking instruction and performing duties assigned.
• Dependable and trustworthy
• Demonstrated experience and emotional commitment to working with youth and families in urban community.

• Strong organizational and time management skills.

• Current CPR certification required.
Physical Requirements:
• Ability to lift up to 75 pounds.
• Ability to stand or sit for long periods of time during busy periods of time.
• Must be able to be productive in a work environment where the noise level can be high at times
• Must be comfortable with standing and working in various conditions
• Must be able to work extended hours and/or weekends as required by deadlines and event scheduling
