Job Title: Manager – Business and Community Communications
Job Summary: In this role of Manager – Business and Community Communications, you will be responsible for developing and implementing strategic communication plans across the Club with a particular focus on our off-the-field efforts. This job includes public relations management, internal communications, and short- and long-term brand management. In addition to the Kansas City Royals, this role will also assist with supporting events and strategies with the Royals Foundation and Urban Youth Academy.
Responsibilities & Accountabilities:
• Lead efforts for communication strategy across all verticals in the club including Kansas City Royals Foundation, UYA, Sport Development and Club activities.
• Assist in developing comprehensive, research-based public relations plans that identify key community stakeholders and outline specific activities for the purpose of continually improving communications and building the strength of our brand.
• Maintain internal communications website and work with departments across the Club to lead cross collaboration communication through internal website.
• Research innovative ways to improve and maintain brand reputation and connect with the community in unique and ever-changing ways.
• Build rapport and relationships with local and national media, including independent news outlets and fan blogs.
• Build new and strengthen existing relationships with media outlets on all platforms and handle media events, kits, and interviews.
• Represent the Royals and our associates with class, while maintaining confidentiality and integrity for confidential matters both in the community and in the office.
• Write press releases and advisories for the purpose of telling our story as accurately and broadly as possible.
• Act as a spokesperson for the organization, ensuring the company's image, brand and reputation are told as accurately and positively as possible.
• Assist with media responsibilities and daily promotion of the Royals' brand across multiple departments in both business and baseball.
• Serve as a secondary communications contact for media inquiries.
• Collaborate and partner with staff members across multiple departments to create comprehensive communication plans for internal and external stakeholders.
• Collaborate with staff members to develop and execute proactive corporate communications strategies that help achieve organizational goals.
Position Qualifications, Skills, and Experience Required:
• Qualified candidates possess a bachelor's degree in Public Relations, Marketing, Communications, Journalism, English, or a related field from an accredited four-year college or university.
• Must possess a minimum of 3-5 years of public/media relations experience, or equivalent experience in media and connecting fans with a brand.
• Demonstrate excellent verbal, written and presentation skills.
• Exhibit outstanding professionalism, judgment, trustworthiness and integrity.
• Willingness to manage early morning and evening media requests. This includes weekend games and events.
• Stay updated on industry trends and best practices in corporate communications.
• Must be a highly organized self-starter able to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines with minimal supervision.
• Bilingual is a plus.
Physical Requirements:
• Ability to lift items weighing as much as 15 pounds
• Must be able to work in a seated position for majority of workday
• Must be able to be productive utilizing a computer keyboard and telephone
• Must be able to be productive in a work environment where the noise level can be high at times
• Must be comfortable walking to navigate the facility to access the office, concourse, etc.
• Must be able to work extended hours and/or weekends as required by deadlines and event scheduling

This role is a Full-Time, Exempt opportunity that is eligible for Company Benefits, 401K, and PTO. This role is expected to have a standard 40-hour work week.
