Job Description
The EMEA Networks Accounting Director will be one of key accounting leaders in the EMEA Networks Finance Controllership Team and should plan, direct and coordinate all operational and statutory accounting functions for (a group of countries within) the EMEA region for Warner Bros. Discovery. This position will lead an accounting team of around 10 experienced employees located mostly in Warsaw.
The Accounting Director will report directly to the VP EMEA Networks controller. The Accounting Controllers Team is responsible for monthly and quarterly US GAAP reporting, preparing the statutory financial statements (in numerous GAAPs), review of account reconciliations and support for global financial reporting processes. Everyday responsibilities include ensuring compliance during audits, as well as with SEC and SOX guidelines.
The Team closely cooperates with other relevant stakeholders, including the tax team, GBS, as well as external vendors. The EMEA Accounting Controllership Team is responsible for multiple countries from the Networks segment in the region, including UK, Germany, France, Poland, Italy, Norway, Sweden, Denmark, Finland, Turkey, United Arab Emirates and more.
In this role, you must have a solid understanding of IFRS and/or US GAAP allowing you to identify, propose and decided on the accounting treatment for complex transactions. You should be a strong leader supporting the team in everyday activities as well as acting as mentor and promoter, having tangible impact on your team's development. You will be a partner to multiple stakeholders, internal and external.
Your Role Accountabilities…
• Manage and own assigned tasks and processes within accounting area applying IFRS/US GAAP + relevant local GAAP expertise.
• Review complex financial reporting transactions, provide guidance to your stakeholders and coordinate technical accounting research to determine proper recognition in line with regulations and company policies.
• Be a hands-on leader managing a team of several Managers / Senior Managers including their day-to-day activities, deliverables, issue management, as well as holidays and career path.
• Drive and manage improvements and develop automation of daily/monthly standard tasks accounting processes and workflows.
• Manage internal and external audit work (Sox testing, maintenance and updating of internal controls, Financial Compliance processes).
• Prepare/Review periodical management reports, BS Flux and SEC schedules, reconciliations including applicable regular analyses and metrics as well as ad hoc reporting.
• Lead cross department meetings, document and track action items. Propose solutions. Escalate issues as appropriate.
Qualifications & Experience…
• Master's degree in accounting or finance and significant experience of accounting/auditing in international environment.
• Solid experience in a supervisory/leadership role of an experienced team.
• BIG4 experience as well as knowledge of media / entertainment industry are considered an advantage.
• Understanding of IFRS and/or US GAAP is a must. Practical end-to-end understanding of reporting impact of accounted transactions is necessary to succeed in this role.
• Ability to navigate through multiple accounting and reporting jurisdictions, including UK, German, French, Italian, Polish and Nordic countries' GAAPs. These are not required but are considered an advantage.
• ACCA, CIMA or PIBR completed qualification is considered a strong advantage.
