Job Description
UTA seeks a highly motivated attorney to join the Business Affairs department in the Los Angeles office. This executive will be an expert in motion picture and/or independent film and will report to the Head of Business Affairs, and will include reviewing, drafting, and negotiating deals for UTA's Motion Picture division.
The salary range for this role is $125,000 to $300,000 commensurate with experience and skills.
What You Will Do
• Responsible for handling a variety of Independent Film and Motion Picture development, production and distribution projects on a day to day basis, including negotiating: actor, writer, producer and director agreements, rights agreements, film finance agreements, co-production agreements, option agreements, distribution agreements, and various other agreements.
• Act as an entrepreneurial business partner with and provide decision-making support and guidance on strategy in deal making to UTA agents and executives.
• Apply innovative problem-solving skills and practical business judgment to balance UTA's business needs and acceptable levels of risk.
• Foster positive long-term internal business client and external client relationships.
What You Will Need
• JD from an accredited law school
• Admitted to CA Bar
• 6+ years of transactional legal experience, ideally with at least 4 of those years spent working on motion picture entertainment agreements. Experience with independent film agreements is highly desired.
• Experience in some or all of the following areas is also highly desired: drafting and negotiating talent agreements (e.g., actors, writers, producers, directors), production services agreements; intellectual property; guild/union agreements; and/or production legal work related to scripted audiovisual content.
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills which will enable you to interact with a range of personalities and styles in a fast-paced business environment and to work effectively with people at many different levels (including agents, senior executives, executives/business affairs, producers, artists, other attorneys, and in-house client divisions); have an effective problem-solving approach; excellent drafting and analytical skills; be well-organized; and have a strong work ethic.
