JOB SUMMARY: The Texas Rangers are seeking a part-time ESL Instructor/Education Assistant to work with international players and domestic players/staff in our Player Development Complex in Surprise, AZ. This role will be focused on delivering a baseball and life skills related English as a Second Language (ESL) curriculum for the Arizona Complex League during the 2025 season.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF POSITION INCLUDE, BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO THE FOLLOWING:
• Provide English language and life skills instruction part time during the Minor League season, from February-October.
• Utilize the Texas Rangers' baseball and life skills centered English-language curriculum to teach minor league international players
• Assist in developing creative and engaging lesson plans that support authentic language learning for both English.
• Conduct pre-assessments, post-assessments, and one-on-one meetings with players to develop individual learning objectives.
• Analyze and report player needs to the Education and Player Development staff.
• Assist players with completing formal education program, including proctoring exams, tutoring, facilitating classwork and tracking progress on an as-needed basis.
• Assist in facilitating MLB mandated workshops, seminars, and class sessions.
• Provide online Zoom teaching on an as-needed basis.
• Support coordination of part time teaching staff to facilitate continued language education.
• Assess student progress and submit progress evaluations throughout season.
• Maintain player attendance reports and provide behavioral feedback to Education Coordinator and Player Development leadership.
• Assist international players in learning English and American culture and acclimating to life in US city/community
• All other duties as assigned.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
• Bilingual English/Spanish preferred
• Previous ESL classroom teaching experience
• Prior teaching experience of at least 2 years (5 preferred)
• ESL endorsement or certification preferred
• Strong verbal and written communication skills in English
• Significant understanding or working knowledge of baseball
• Computer skills
• Strong organizational and interpersonal skills
• Able to work flexible hours
• A passion for teaching and the ability to build a trusting relationship with players
• Self-starter
• Valid driver's license and clean driving record
