Sony Pictures Entertainment is seeking an Assistant for its New York office of Literary Development. Primarily an administrative role, the optimal candidate will be a quick learner who demonstrates a keen interest in book publishing, feature film, TV, entertainment, social media and pop-culture. They should possess stellar reading, writing, critical thinking and interpersonal skills in support of the NYC-based Literary team in their efforts to evaluate a high volume of manuscripts, source material and IP for the studio's Los Angeles based feature film divisions.
Meticulous attention to detail, listening skills, ability to multi-task, problem solve and execute tasks with maximum efficiency and speed are essential. The ideal candidate will treat their role with the utmost discretion and confidentiality. One to two years prior experience assisting on a desk is preferred.
Responsibilities include: General administrative support functions such as data entry, notetaking, answering phones, scheduling appointments, preparing travel arrangements and expense reports. Assistance in reading and evaluating a high volume of books, manuscripts and other source material.
Responsibilities Include:
• Provide support for SVP, Literary Development and a small team of Creative Executives in NYC-based Literary Development office
• Maintain various tracking databases, documents and memos devoted to the office's daily scouting enterprise
• Assist with general office administration, including handling phones, scheduling, expenses and travel
• Evaluating manuscripts and other source material under consideration for feature film development
• Contributing to various research projects on book sales, authors, competitive tracking, and other business critical subjects
Learning and Opportunities/Experiences include:
• Learning the strategic process behind optioning literary IP at a major Hollywood studio
• Acquiring a vast knowledge and deep understanding of how the book publishing and feature film businesses operate
• Experience supporting a team of executives in a fast-paced corporate environment
• Exposure to the studio's broader infrastructure, arms and divisions
Desired Skills and Qualifications:
• Meticulous attention to detail and ability to execute daily and long-term tasks with utmost speed, efficiency, confidence and positivity
• Ability to multi-task and prioritize daily responsibilities with more long-term projects in an often fast-paced, high-pressure corporate office environment
• Strong reading, writing, critical thinking, and communication skills (written, verbal and interpersonal)
• Some knowledge of and fluency with the entertainment industry and/or publishing industry is preferred
• Experience with MS-Office (Outlook, Word, and especially Excel), Google docs, Dropbox, and various social media platforms
The anticipated base salary for this position is $63,200 to $79,000. This role may also qualify for annual incentive and/or comprehensive benefits. The actual base salary offered will depend on a variety of factors, including without limitation, the qualifications of the individual applicant for the position, years of relevant experience, level of education attained, certifications or other professional licenses held, and if applicable, the location of the position.
