Job Description
Simon & Schuster seeks an energetic and book-passionate Associate Publicist to work on the Saga Press imprint. This person will collaborate closely and support campaigns for books within the fantasy, science fiction, and horror genres. Interest in one or more of these genres is a must, although direct work experience is not a key requirement.

Saga Press has created a prestigious roster of established and emerging authors, and an innovative list of bestselling, award-winning books. The imprint publishes within the fantasy, science fiction, and horror genres, and the liminal spaces in-between. Some of the roster of authors include Peter S. Beagle, Chloe Gong, Charlaine Harris, Stephen Graham Jones, Ken Liu, Amal El-Mohtar & Max Gladstone, Rebecca Rohanhorse, and R.A. Salvatore.

The person in this role will assist in daily operations and administrative functions for the Saga Press publicity team, work with senior publicity staff with media and event campaigns, and coordinate publicity campaigns for assigned titles under supervision. With this in mind, to be successful in this role we feel that you'll need to have:
• Excellent written verbal communication skills,
• Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively,
• Detail oriented approach to daily task,
• Approximately two years of experience in Publicity,
• Ability to multi-task, prioritize, and manage time effectively.

Primary Responsibilities:
• Develop and implement title-specific publicity campaigns for frontlist titles, sometimes independently and sometimes collaboratively with a senior publicist.
• Attend all Saga Press planning meetings with editorial, marketing, sales, etc. Work collaboratively internally with colleagues.
• Create marketing materials such as press releases, pitches, Q&As.
• Pitch and secure top national and local media, including print, broadcast and online outlets, with a focus on genre tastemakers, such as: arranging cover reveals and excerpts, author interviews and round-ups with key fantasy, horror and sci-fi media outlets and bloggers. Strong communication with external media contacts and booksellers will be key.
• Research, develop and maintain contact lists, and build strong relationships with key media. This includes updating media database and mailing out reviewing copies to press.
• Build strong relationship with Saga Press authors to ensure involvement and participation in marketing and publicity efforts.
• Plan and coordinate author book tours, and book local area events.
• Reconciling expenses and processing invoices/bills for said tour expenses.
• Coordinate submissions of upcoming publishing calendars and SFF-focused literary awards.
• Work closely with S&S marketing and digital marketing team to feature Saga titles. Support Saga Press social media channels (Twitter, Facebook, Tumblr and Instagram) including content planning, execution and posting as well as fan, author and media amplification/engagement.
• Advising authors on their online presence (when and where applicable) via email collection, Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, YouTube, LinkedIn, etc., especially when it comes to promoting tour markets or sharing media coverage.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

The annual salary for this position is $58,000.00 - $60,000.00

The hiring salary range for this position applies to New York City, California, Colorado, Washington state, and most other geographies. Starting pay for the successful applicant depends on a variety of job-related factors, including but not limited to geographic location, market demands, experience, training, and education. The benefits available for this position include medical, dental, vision, 401(k) plan, life insurance coverage, disability benefits, tuition assistance program and PTO or, if applicable, as otherwise dictated by the appropriate Collective Bargaining Agreement.
