Director, People Analytics

People Analytics (PA) collaborates across the People team (Human Resources) and the business to uncover data-driven insights to solve business challenges across the talent/employee lifecycle and enable transformational change. Our team is on a journey of establishing a holistic and client-centric approach within Sony Interactive Entertainment (SIE) to shed light on key challenges or opportunities to attract, hire, retain, and develop the right talent per business needs across the globe. To that end, PA team strives to employ the best in data / analytics insights and visualization in service of providing actionable insights and empowering the right business decision.
Reporting to VP, People and Places Operations, Director, People Analytics (PA) is responsible for setting the PA function's strategy and roadmap, for leading the PA team in delivering the said roadmap, and for delivering relevant insights to the People team and SIE leadership broadly. The Director will manage and collaborate with a small but mighty team of 2 analysts and a data engineer (contractor). In addition, they will build and enrich relationships with other COEs within the People team and establish credibility with various leaders within the business.
To fill this position, we are looking for someone who has a good understanding of the power and limitations of both analytic models and human gut experience, knows that making the right decision first requires employing strong consulting and business skills to engage business leaders in framing the right questions and then presenting the data in a way that is truly insightful. They will have a comprehensive understanding of HR data (its associated mapping for reporting and analytics), extensive data analysis experience, and expertise with reporting tools. In addition, the ideal individual will be proactive and anticipatory in approach, possess excellent judgment in a variety of situations, demonstrate superior written and verbal communication skills, have a high attention to detail, exemplify an energetic, poised, and positive demeanor, and demonstrate the ability to balance multiple priorities and work well in a diverse, fast-paced, team environment. As a representative of the People Team, the successful candidate must also maintain the highest level of confidentiality and diplomacy regarding all matters.
What You'll Be Doing
• Develop and execute PA strategy & roadmap incorporating short and long-term goals aligned with organization's goals; the roadmap should include ownership and support for data warehousing, reporting and analytics tools/services
• Champion the movement to an organizational 'data-informed decision-making' mindset while effectively supporting partners having varying levels of comfort with data analytics usage; develop and implement standard process for operationalizing insights and discoveries in partnership with stakeholders to ensure adoption and value to the organization
• Support the People Org Leadership Team by providing creative and innovative thinking to evaluate the risks and rewards for business planning and decision making; translate data findings into actionable recommendations for People and business leaders
• Develop and conduct regular updates for People Team and SIE leadership to share key people metrics and insights; know the business, its key metrics and how to make the linkage between the business and talent
• Provide guidance, training, and subject matter expertise to various People Team centers of excellence (COEs) including Compensation & Rewards, Talent Acquisition and Diversity, Equity & Inclusion in asking appropriate questions, selecting the right metrics for the programs, interpreting the data, and translating the insights into actionable recommendations
• Work closely with the People Business Partners teams to enable change and drive business outcomes within the organizations they support; provide data interpretations and analyses spanning across, but not limited to workforce planning, organization design, engagement, talent management, benefits, compensation, training, recruiting, etc. in a timely manner
• Partner with the People Ops team to evaluate various programs and the effectiveness of the outcomes
• Utilize statistical modeling, machine learning, and other advanced analytics techniques to derive meaningful insights from People data; deliver ad hoc analyses to drive strategic and tactical decision making, and measure ongoing results
• Lead the maintenance and enhancement of PA dashboards to present data in a meaningful and actionable framework; ensure the freshness and relevance of various metric definitions
• Evolve PA technology stack and ways of working towards scalability, efficiency, and automation to continually deliver unparalleled support to the organization while freeing the team for more advanced analytics
• Own, maintain and ensure quality of key People datasets; effectively gather and integrate a growing number of datasets from multiple sources, transforming or cleaning data as necessary; own the scalability and security of the People Datawarehouse
• Lead Data Governance and define best practices for data definition, access, and management; implement security measures to safeguard sensitive People information in accordance with the data governance policies and collaborate with the People Technology and Solutions (PTS) team to promote data governance across all data delivery systems including Workday
• Lead, mentor and develop a high-performing PA team; on a day-to-day basis, ensure that the team is working on the most impactful projects, employing the right techniques for the problem at hand, drawing appropriate conclusions and communicating effectively with tech/non-tech stakeholders
• Actively participate in external professional organizations and build a powerful network to understand and shape the emerging analytical trends and practices
• Perform other position appropriate duties as required in a competent, professional, and courteous manner
What We're Looking For
• 12+ years in People Analytics, Consulting and Strategy, Business Analytics, or related discipline, with at least 5 years of people leadership experience leading and building team of professionals, including setting direction, providing feedback, managing performance, and providing development
• BA/BS degree in Business, Mathematics, Computer Science, Social Sciences, Statistics, Data Analytics, Economics or related field, or equivalent experience
• Comprehensive understanding of human resources processes, practices, and key performance metrics
• Experience / understanding of building and managing data pipelines, data warehouse architecture and implementation, data engineering, and ensuring data quality and integrity
• Proficiency in statistical analysis, data visualization, and advanced analytics capabilities
• Demonstrated experience influencing senior leadership teams and business partners, with strong visual storytelling skills that can translate complicated analytics into easily understood actionable recommendations
• Proven ability to communicate complex analytical findings in a clear and concise manner to diverse audiences (including non-technical stakeholders) verbally, visually, and in writing
