The Ballantine Publishing Group is a leading publishing house of an elevated list of commercial fiction and nonfiction.  Our imprints – Ballantine, Bantam Books and Dell/Delacorte – publish fiction and nonfiction in all formats with the mission to entertain, educate and inspire readers.

We are currently seeking a proactive and detail-oriented Publishing Assistant to join the Ballantine Bantam Dell publishing team. The assistant will support the President and Backlist director and work closely with the Deputy Publisher and Publishing Manager on all aspects of the publishing program.  This position offers a unique perspective on the strategy and operation of a major commercial publishing imprint.

Responsibilities:
*Providing administrative support, such as tracking deadlines, organizing and scheduling meetings, preparing expense reports, tracking projects in spreadsheets, ordering books and galleys, circulating bestseller lists and drafting and sending imprint communications.
*Drafting and executing author and agent communications on behalf of imprint President and Deputy Publisher
*Coordination of author meetings, including preparing handouts, setting up room, and attending meeting
*Imprint wide communication
*Research and create detailed sales reporting and analyze data to help inform seasonal publishing decisions; provide individual title sales and laydown information, author sales history as needed; and more
*Core member of media tie-in team: maintain tie-in tracking grid, assist with outreach to studios, coordinate tie-in sticker process
*Assist with researching competition for publishing planning (timing, pricing)
*Research and report on inventory needs, backlist rates, contract details
*Handle special projects to support the overall efforts of the imprint
*Schedule department meetings, coordinate meeting agendas, gather meeting materials, and take minutes
*Running reports to identify backlist opportunity titles based on sales, category & trend data
*Pulling & analyzing billings data at the imprint, title & author level
*Assisting with creation of reissue/repackage schedules for backlist

The ideal candidate will have:
• A passion for reading a wide array of book club fiction and genre fiction-both mystery and romance--across categories, as well as a keen interest in what type of books and stories readers enjoy in the genres BBD publishes.
• Excellent written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills.
• A team player mentality and the ability to build internal & external relationships with departments, authors, agents, and other stakeholders.
• Exceptional attention to detail and outstanding follow-up, organizational, and multitask skills.
• Ability to take initiative and problem solve creatively and professionally in a fast-paced office environment.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.

This is a hybrid position with occasional in-office responsibilities, which will include but not be limited to meetings with agents, and authors, and escorting authors to events. We will consider candidates who can work from a commutable distance to our offices at 1745 Broadway, which includes the tri-state area (NJ, CT, & PA).

The entry-level salary for this position is $48,000. All positions are currently eligible for annual profit award or bonus, subject to Company results. Kindly include your cover letter and resume in our application system.
