Dutton/Plume/Tiny Reparations Books is seeking a Publicity Assistant to work closely with and support the Director of Publicity for Plume/Associate Director of Publicity for Dutton and the Assistant Director of Publicity for Dutton/Plume. The Dutton, Plume, and Tiny Reparations imprints at Penguin Random House are leading publishers of adult fiction and non-fiction titles by bestselling and award-winning authors such as Jason Mott, Sean Carroll, John Green, Fiona Davis, Lisa Gardner, Hank Green, Jonathan Karl, Trixie Mattel & Katya, Nick Offerman, Phoebe Robinson, Riley Sager, and many more. In this role, the Publicity Assistant will perform general office and administrative tasks, complete book mailings, learn about the trade publishing industry, and eventually take on publicity campaigns for hardcover and paperback titles. We're looking for a candidate who enjoys brainstorming creative publicity ideas and likes to work in a friendly, fast-paced, collaborative environment.

The Role:
• Pulling media lists and mailing books out to print, radio, TV, and online contacts.
• Inputing confirmed events, reviews, and interviews into the publicity database, saving media clips onto the server, and scanning reviews when necessary.
• Learning to book media (print, radio, TV, online interviews) for author tours.
• Arranging author events at bookstores and other event venues.
• Working with travel agents to coordinate flight and hotel accommodations for authors.
• Learning to write press materials, including press releases, pitch letters, galley letters, and tour cards.
• Creating detailed schedules for touring authors and authors with heavy media schedules.
• Researching media trends, blogs, podcasts, niche interest groups, and more.
• Acitvely building and maintaining media and event contacts.
• Providing support to managers at an administrative level and for their individual book campaigns.
• Performing administrative departmental tasks such as filing expense reports, arranging department meetings, etc.
The Essentials:
• Strong interest in publicity and book publishing
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Ability to manage multiple responsibilities in a deadline-driven environment
• Excellent organizational skills and superb attention to detail
• Timely follow-up over email and phone while navigating different communication styles
• Proven ability to work independently and collaboratively with a team
• Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook
• Active working knowledge of social media and an interest in following book trends is a plus
• Knowledge of Adobe Photoshop, InDesign, and Canva is a plus but not a requirement (training available)
Salary for this position is $45,000. Full-time employees are eligible for our comprehensive benefits program.
