Managing Editorial Assistant or Assistant Managing Editor, Corporate Bookmaking (Hybrid)
The Corporate Bookmaking team has a wonderful opportunity for a Managing Editorial Assistant or Assistant Managing Editor to join Vintage Books and Everyman's Library, imprints of the Knopf Doubleday Publishing Group. Dedicated to publishing Knopf Doubleday's award-winning and bestselling titles in paperback, Vintage is an industry-leading publisher, with a roster of authors that includes Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie, Margaret Atwood, James Baldwin, Dan Brown, David Grann, Kazuo Ishiguro, Jhumpa Lahiri, Cormac McCarthy, Toni Morrison, Haruki Murakami, Edward W. Said, and Colson Whitehead, among many others. Vintage also publishes a select number of paperback originals. Everyman's Library publishes the finest hardcover editions available of the world's greatest classics from Homer to Achebe, Tolstoy to Ishiguro, Plato to Cisneros.
The Assistant will handle routine requests for information and support the Managing Editor by updating title networks and publishing schedules. Additional responsibilities include assisting in carrying out backlist reprint corrections and updates, reviewing text and cover proofs, creating and updating back ads for reprints, reviewing reprints for quality, creating bound galley materials and eGalleys, and assisting with sales of materials to foreign publishers.
This is an exciting opportunity to get an overview of the publishing process and to act as a point of contact with a variety of departments, including but not limited to editorial, production, interior design, cover design, and marketing. Specific responsibilities include:
• Attending reprint meetings; reviewing titles up for reprint and compiling lists of needed cover and text corrections
• Liaising with editorial and the art department to carry out necessary corrections
• Updating metadata in SAP and the FileMaker Pro database
• Routing and tracking bound galley materials to other departments for approval
• Assisting in tracking Netgalley epub schedules
• Watermarking files for editorial, marketing, publicity, and others as requested
• Creating back ads for frontlist and backlist books
• Assisting and coordinating the sales of book materials to foreign publishers
• Providing general administrative support to the Managing Editorial department, backing up colleagues, and assisting with special projects as needed

• Familiarity with the Chicago Manual of Style
• Familiarity with FileMaker Pro, Lytho, Adobe Acrobat Pro, and/or SAP a plus
The PRH office is located in New York, NY. This is a hybrid position, with an expectation to be in the office approximately three days per week. We will consider candidates who can commute to our office at 1745 Broadway from the tri-state area.
The salary for the Managing Editorial Assistant position is $51,000. Candidates with less than two years of professional managing editorial experience will be considered for this level. The salary for the Assistant Managing Editor position is $56,000. Candidates with two or more years of managing editorial experience will be considered for this level. All positions are currently eligible for an annual profit award or bonus, subject to Company performance.
