Editorial Assistant, Convergent - Faith, Spirituality, & Wellness Books (Open to Remote)
The Convergent imprint at Penguin Random House is looking for an Editorial Assistant to join their team. Convergent seeks out diverse viewpoints and honest conversations that shed light on the defining challenges facing people of faith today. The Essentials
The Assistant provides administrative and editorial support to three senior-level editors on a list of bestselling narrative and faith-based nonfiction. Daily responsibilities include all-around project support for editors, calendar and meeting management, proposal/manuscript reading and submission management, drafting flap and catalogue copy, and brainstorming creative publishing approaches and solutions to help authors/books through the publication process.
The Editorial Assistant should be highly motivated, enthusiastic about publishing, and enjoy reading broadly and often. We are looking for a meticulous self-starter who is invested in the process of bringing them to a wide readership, communicates clearly, and will be an active participant on a collaborative team. The ideal candidate will manage a diverse set of responsibilities efficiently and effectively and be comfortable asking for help when needed.
Position Summary
• Providing general administrative support, filing departmental expense reports, scheduling meetings, routing author payments, keeping track of project due dates, executing mailings, and fielding questions from authors.
• Creating profit & loss documents, contract information sheets, collecting sales data, and competitive title research.
• Working with authors, publishers, agents, and the managing editorial department to coordinate and keep track of production process from finished manuscript to bound book.
• Researching trends and competition, including sales research on comparative titles.
• Preparing title information sheets and other marketing materials.
• Writing and editing catalog, flap, and marketing copy.
• Evaluating manuscripts, logging submissions, and drafting rejection letters.
The ideal candidate will have:
• Prior office experience with administrative duties
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• An avid reader who keeps up with trends and has an abiding interest in current events and religious nonfiction
• A team player who treats others with respect and has the ability to build internal & external relationships with departments, authors, agents, and other stakeholders
• Exceptional attention to detail and strong follow-up skills
• Superb organizational skills and ability to multitask
• Ability to take initiative and problem solve creatively
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite
The salary for this position is $48,000. All positions are currently eligible for annual profit award or bonus, subject to Company results.
