Copy Editor (Bilingual), Random House Children's Books

Random House Children's Books is seeking a Copy Editor (Bilingual) to join the Copyediting team! The Copy Editor will copyedit and proofread an assortment of titles ranging from board books to young adult novels, in English and Spanish. The role requires communication with various RHCB departments, including Managing Editorial, Editorial, Design, and Production. The ideal candidate has a love for children's books and demonstrated copyediting and proofreading skills in both English and Spanish. Beyond an expert knowledge of grammar, spelling, and usage, this position requires persistent attention to detail, an ear for language and narrative voice, and strong collaborative people skills.

Responsibilities:
• Ensuring consistency of style and accuracy of spelling, grammar, and punctuation for both English-language and Spanish-language books and related materials
• Proofreading covers and jackets, and verifying accuracy of book information at every stage
• Acting as a Spanish-language style resource for other copy editors and other departments
• Hiring and reviewing work of Spanish-language freelancers as needed
• Maintaining ''internal logic'' of assigned books, acting as a consultant regarding editorial-related questions, and resolving problems through discussions with Managing Editorial, Editorial, Design, and Production

Requirements:
• At least 3 years of experience copyediting/proofreading/production editing in English
• Professional experience copyediting/proofreading/editing in Spanish
• Thorough command of grammar, spelling, punctuation, and usage in both English and Spanish
• Digital editing experience, including copyediting with Track Changes in Microsoft Word and proofreading in Adobe Acrobat
• Ability to work independently and decisively on multiple projects, accommodating shifting schedules and frequent interruptions
• Clear, conscientious, and collaborative communication skills, both verbal and written
• Demonstrated fact-checking skills and instincts are a plus
• Experience editing press releases, website copy, and marketing/sales material is a plus
