The Role
The Communications team at Netflix is hiring a Specialist to work on Corporate and Public Affairs initiatives and help tell the story of Netflix in Canada. This role is based out of the Toronto office. Experience working with the media in Canada is a requirement for this role.
Our ideal candidate will be a strategic thinker, a strong communicator, and a relationship builder, who can be a trusted partner and adviser to teams across multiple disciplines. This role will create and manage communications strategies, pitches and announcements.
Key to this role is being creative and proactive, making wise decisions, and exercising sound judgment even when faced with ambiguity. Additionally, the role requires a collaborative team player who is resourceful, optimistic, and solution-oriented.
Responsibilities:
• Track, vet, and respond to media requests
• Draft communications plans, announcements, briefing materials, and messaging documents
• Assemble and keep press lists up to date; developing and nurturing media contacts
• Identify impactful story angles, craft pitches, and secure stories centered around Netflix's business in Canada
• Track, analyze and circulate press coverage reports and competitive research
Qualifications:
• 5+ years of experience in corporate or agency settings with a focus on corporate communications and/or public affairs
• Working media relationships at traditional and emerging business, trade and consumer outlets
• A good understanding of the entertainment business and regulatory landscape in Canada
• Experience handling a high volume of complex projects and tasks for multiple people and teams while simultaneously managing competing priorities
• Ability to leverage insights, develop and secure stories aligned to company priorities
• Clear and concise communication style; strong written and verbal skills that can effectively convey complex ideas
• Meticulous organizational skills, good judgment of brand and comms risks, and effective time management
• A curious and ambitious self-starter with an interest in what drives conversation and how Netflix can be at the forefront
• Have a point of view, and be able to offer a unique perspective and voice
Generally, our compensation structure consists solely of an annual salary; we do not have bonuses. You choose each year how much of your compensation you want in salary versus stock options. To determine your personal top of market compensation, we rely on market indicators and consider your specific job family, background, skills, and experience to determine your compensation in the market range.
