Responsibilities

Role Purpose

The Manager, Music Business and Legal Affairs will provide complete music services for clients, as well as support for the department and our productions. This position will work with various personnel, internal and external, to ensure all music used is consistent with practices and guidelines for usage. Responsibilities include overseeing music clearance and agreements from intake to file closure, executing cue sheet training, supervision and analysis, and leading inquiry/claim intake, investigation and resolution.

The Manager will be focused internally and externally, maintaining industry contacts while possessing a solid understanding of music, the music industry and our business. They will liaise with key stakeholders, including internal partners, publishers, labels, music libraries and other related vendors. There is potential to manage, supervise and support direct reports, as well as opportunity to assist with special projects as they arise.

Job Duties
• Research music for all details pertinent to clearance and tracking, including publisher(s), record label(s), performing rights society(ies) and usage type(s)
• Assist in negotiating, drafting, processing and reviewing music synch/master, and other music related agreements
• Process work for hires including papering, registering cues, uploading fully executed agreements to ELF, maintaining detailed, organized files and securing/archiving the physical elements
• Assist with all facets of cue sheet administration, including creation, review, research, revision, submission, archiving and analysis
• Assist with risk assessment and advising productions on usage and licensing implications
• Collaborate with various production departments on budgeting, invoicing, payroll, union obligations, and deliverables
• Process payments, set up vendors in system and interact with AP team
• Organize and maintain tracking grids, cost charts and database for production music usage and licensing; utilize internal systems for doc/info archiving (e.g. DMS, SharePoint)
• Provide support and input necessary for expansion/upgrades to internal systems (e.g. MusicForce, Odyssey, etc) and external systems we're onboarding

Qualifications

Basic Requirements
• Bachelor's degree from an accredited university, or equivalent years of work experience
• Minimum 5+ years of experience working in music business affairs, or in a music clearance-related capacity

Additional Requirements
• Must be willing to work in Universal City, CA
• Must be covered by Solutions, NBCU's Alternative Dispute Resolution Program
• Must have work authorization to work in the United States
