Part-Time Nutrition Assistant
Department: Sports Medicine and Performance
Reports to: MiLB Nutrition Coordinator
Classification: Part-time/Non-Exempt
Summary/Objective
The Houston Astros, LLC, are currently seeking a part-time Nutrition Assistant to join the Sports Medicine & Performance department (SM&P) at our minor league affiliate located in Sugar Land, TX.
With the support from the MiLB Nutrition Coordinator, this position will experience and/or observe all aspects of the team's performance nutrition including education, medical nutrition therapy, counseling, practice and competition fueling, coordinating catering, overseeing meals, working closely with the clubhouse staff and home food service supplier, if applicable, and assisting with operational and administrative tasks. The focus of the role is performance enhancement support, and this person will have an opportunity to work alongside and collaborate with other members of the SM&P department (sports medicine, strength and conditioning, mental health and performance, and nutrition). This position will report to the MiLB Nutrition Coordinator.
Essential Functions & Responsibilities

• Attend team activities such as practices, lifts/conditioning/training, competitions, meetings, mealtimes, and other events where nutrition support is needed.
• Execute the nutrition department's vision and strategy to enhance player performance and well-being
• Assist with:
• management of nutrition fueling for home and away practices, lift, training sessions and competitions, including pre-, during, and post-game fuel and hydration.
• menu selection, ordering and procuring meals, snacks, and fluids.
• food offered in the clubhouse, bullpen, and dugout in collaboration with clubhouse staff.
• fueling station operations including but not limited to inventory, product ordering, fueling station aesthetics, and education.
• other duties such as food service management, education initiatives and administrative and operational tasks.
• Follow and promote proper food safety and sanitation procedures.
• Adhere to the organization's policies and procedures as outlined in the Astros Handbook, SM&P Handbook, Medical Department Handbook, and direct communication from the Director of Sports Medicine and Performance
• Perform other duties as assigned.
Professional Development
• Lead monthly journal clubs with the nutrition team to discuss evidence-based findings and determine best practices.
• Stay abreast of current food, nutrition, and health issues and research related to sports nutrition.
Qualifications
Required
• Must be enrolled in a Nutrition or Dietetics program
• Have a desire to work in corporate wellness or sports performance
• Have experience with content creation to include but not limited to: Canva, Microsoft Office, Sharepoint, Teams.
• Bilingual (Spanish/English) is an asset but not required.
• Minimum of 1+ year of collegiate and/or professional sports experience is preferred.

• Comprehensive knowledge and application of medical nutrition therapy, including interviewing, education techniques and appropriate recommendations.
• Knowledge of food service quality and safety procedures.
Work Environment
This role operates in an office, dining room, locker room and outside setting. The noise level is usually moderate but can be loud within the stadium environment. This role will be expected to work indoor and outdoor in moderate weather conditions. This role will involve being on the individual's feet for long periods of time.
Physical Demands
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. This role will require the individual to be physically moving for long periods of time. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle or feel; and reach with hands and arms. This role will require the individual to lift and carry up to 25 pounds throughout the day.
Position Type and Expected Hours of Work
Ability to work a flexible schedule, including evenings, weekends, and holidays. An average of 20 hours per week to include coverage of home games.
Travel
Travel is not expected in this role.
