Job Description
Elle Decor is seeking a versatile, whip-smart Assistant Editor to join the digital team of one of the leading voices in American design journalism. This person will assist our Deputy digital editor as she manages the day-to-day content produced for ElleDecor.com, which includes coverage of daily news, trend coverage, and search-optimized service stories and shoppable roundups, among others. This is a writing-intensive role and the ideal candidate will have top-notch writing and reporting skills, a keen eye for good design, and experience in a fast-paced digital environment, ideally for a shelter publication or website.
Resonsibilities:
What You'll Do:
• Write and edit content for our website on a daily basis, working with our deputy digital editor and our staff to ensure a lively, engaging mix of articles
• Write and optimize SEO stories, as identified by Hearst's internal SEO team
• Write and edit social-media posts
• Repackage our monthly print-first content for the website and Instagram
• Monitor and report upon trends in the design community and our culture at large that will help generate new ideas for smart, timely web coverage
• Assist with the deployment of Elle Decor's digital newsletters
Qualifications:
• You'll have 1 to 3 years of digital-media or journalism experience, ideally within the shelter/design category
• A degree in journalism, design, or a related field
• Top-notch editing and writing skills
• Excellent grasp of SEO strategy
• A keen eye for identifying and pitching stories
• Deep knowledge of and passion for the world of interior design and architecture
• Experience with traffic and analytics tools, such as Google Analytics, Google Trends, Parse.ly, and more
• Strong visual and photo research skills
The base salary for this role is $60,000. The actual base pay offered is dependent upon many factors, such as: transferable skills, work experience, business needs and market demands. The base pay range is subject to change and may be modified in the future.
This position is based in the office a minimum of 3 days a week.
This is a position covered under the Writers Guild of America, East, Collective Bargaining Agreement.
