UK Assistant Editor (Maternity Leave Cover)

Frieze is looking for an Assistant Editor (maternity leave) for our content division in London.

The Assistant Editor will help galvanize our audience through great reviews of leading and newly emerging galleries and museums in the United Kingdom, Ireland, France, Belgium and Luxembourg.

At Frieze, editors work collaboratively across offices in New York, London and Berlin to produce essays, profiles, interviews, reviews, video and live events that elevate artists' voices and the stories they want to tell. While remaining attuned to the uniqueness of the arts landscape, Frieze editors strive to tell the stories that emerge from galleries, museums and studios to general audiences, using language that balances literary flair with academic rigor. Across publications and digital platforms, Frieze editors bring together the provocative, brilliant and leading voices who shape – and challenge – today's art world.

The Assistant Editor will help galvanize our audience through great reviews of leading and newly emerging galleries and institutions. The Assistant Editor will coordinate with the Editor-in-Chief, Associate Editor and ad sales team in London and Berlin, as well as with the production, design and marketing teams to execute reviews for audiences around the world, but especially in the UK. The Assistant Editor will also commission and collaborate on related content for frieze.com.

Responsibilities:
• Under the direction of the Editor-in-Chief, Associate Editor and ad sales team, the assistant editor will commission roughly 63 reviews from the UK, Irish, France, Belgium and Luxembourg.
• Roughly 20 pieces of original online-only content, including profiles and interviews.
• Ensure the highest quality of writing, in print and online reviews and related editorial for frieze magazine and frieze.com.
• Discover new, dynamic voices from the UK and EU that expand the magazine's voice while cultivating relationships with existing artists and writers.
• Write and review web headlines for commissions, in collaboration with the Web Content Coordinator.
• Upload commissions to frieze.com and assist with proofing for digital commissions where needed.
• Assist with the print production of the UK Reviews section – compiling captions, proofing the UK reviews for print and inputting copyedits where required.
• Assist with the production of the Frieze New Writers programme in the UK where needed – judging entries, coordinating gallery/studio visits, facilitating the programme.

Experience:
• 2+ years of experience as an editor in arts, culture and news publications, with experience collaborating across digital and print media.
• Demonstrable knowledge of British and European art worlds, especially London and Paris. This includes galleries, museums, project spaces, artists and writers.
• A strong commitment to telling the most compelling and engaging stories in the arts around the world – and across platforms.
• Acute attention to detail, veracity and quality.
• A desire to work regularly with colleagues seated in multiple time-zones
