Roles and Responsibilities

The DevOps Engineer role sits within the Engineering team of the Data Services department responsible for all data applications across the company's divisions globally from Big Data, Data Warehousing, Business Intelligence, Analytics and Data Science.
• Help define and improve processes related to DevOps and ensuring the technical delivery of these processes in a growing data environment
• Adapt to incorporate new and changing solutions and architecture in the cloud
• Working with our agile team to develop and support continuous integration and continuous deployment
• Help develop and support a reliable, dependable, and repeatable release strategy
• Help plan and implement our transformation to full IaC
• Build and maintain integration test strategies, tools and frameworks
• Assist with the creation of reusable components and test datasets
• Monitor code and perform script maintenance and updates
• Bring your knowledge of best practices to improve our processes and performance
• Work with the wider Data Services and other teams ensuring open lines of communication
• Stay up to date with wider industry direction and evaluate the benefit of new technologies

Required Experience
• Previous experience in building and maintaining consistent automation, deployment, and delivery environments with a proven track record.
• Proficiency in running infrastructure on cloud platforms, such as Azure and AWS, appreciation for their failure modes, and a good understanding of network concepts and fundamentals
• Is happy in a scale-up environment; where things move fast, and you need to be flexible to change
• Good interpersonal, written and oral communication skills
• Some technical and requirement documentation skills
• Ability to present ideas in user-friendly language
• Self-motivated and directed, with keen attention to detail
• Able to prioritize and execute tasks in a high-pressure environment
• Can work in a team-orientated, collaborative environment
• Be able to take ideas from inception to delivery
• Provide peer review and testing to ensure requirements have been met and support end-users through UAT, issue resolution and new feature requests

Preferred Skills
• Experience with Linux (Ubuntu / Red Hat)
• Experience with Azure
• Experience with Kubernetes
• Experience with Teraform
• Ability to write scripts with bash, helm or YAML
• CI/CD with Azure Pipelines or Jenkins
• Familiarity with Python is a bonus
• Experience using other cloud environments e.g. AWS, Google Cloud

Additional Responsibilities and Duties when necessary
• Take part in infrastructure and development-related workshops and meetings
• Available to work out of normal business hours and weekends when required
