Job Description
Job Title
Associate Editorial Director, Serious Eats

Serious Eats is seeking an associate editorial director to help manage the team, oversee the site's quality standards and updates processes, edit, write, and assign new content, and focus on strategic and trending/news initiatives with an eye to diversifying traffic sources and increasing readership. The focus on updates and standards will help ensure all domains are as in line with current editorial and culinary practices as possible, while seeking growth-driven opportunities to leverage our library through updates and improvements along with strategic additions of new content.

In this role, you will report to the senior culinary director, manage staff editors, and work with contractors on both existing and new content; you will also be able to single-handedly execute on strategic updates, including edits to existing text, writing new text to expand on what's already there, and quickly generate new articles, when needed. You will top-edit and write new content and conduct culinary accuracy checks, ensuring articles and recipes are publication-ready and fully up to Serious Eats standards.

This detail-oriented individual will have culinary expertise, management experience, a strong knowledge of SEO best practices, strong editing skills, a firm understanding of our style guide and AP Style, and sharp insights into headline writing and article/headnote structure to help drive traffic from a variety of sources. This individual will ensure that we meet our quarterly goals to keep our library fresh and build traffic. This role reports to the senior culinary director.

About Your Contributions:
• Maintain monthly editorial updates lineups and schedules while consulting with editorial, art, production and advertising departments.
• Manage staff editors, helping to build their editorial skills, and ensure smooth and efficient workflows.
• Manage updates projects, working with our Food Vertical Project Coordinator as well as editors on more detailed updates to maintain the brand's high standards of quality.
• Maintain and enforce editorial and visual style for the brand. Ensure all digital content meets SeriousEats.com's publishing standards for tone, sourcing, and accuracy.
Help mentor more junior team members to build their editing and writing skills.
• Write and produce new content in-house, combining data and keyword tools with strong editorial judgment to identify areas of coverage.
• Top-edit new content and perform culinary accuracy checks.
• Track the competitive landscape, analyze trends and identify opportunities within the space.

About You:
• 5+ years experience writing, editing, and curating digital food/drinks content for a large digital publisher, including 2+ years in a managerial position.
• Well-versed in content management systems, web production and analytics tools, and experience using data to inform and develop digital strategies.
• Proactive, collaborative, positive, and flexible team player willing to work cooperatively within editorial and other departments to find solutions and achieve goals.
• As comfortable tackling smaller line edits and accuracy as you are editing for tone and clarity in line with an authoritative style guide.
• Consistently up to date with industry trends, and intuitive understanding of what will resonate with our readership.
• Experience in the application of SEO best practices in the ideation of stories, headline creation, and technical production.
• Experience in implementing strategies and tactics to better diversity traffic sources and grow traffic, such as targeting Google Discover, Apple News, and other existing and emerging platforms.
• Detail-oriented and deadline-focused with top-notch editing and proofing skills.
• Strong copywriter, capable of writing engaging, lively headlines, blurbs, and recipe and article copy.
• Passionate about storytelling, food (and food science!), drinks, and the overall culinary world, and a desire to showcase to readers the amazing and interesting things happening in our space. You simply love to eat and talk about the things you love eating!
