I. Job Summary | Major goals and objectives.

Better Homes & Gardens is seeking a full-time Associate Editor to join our digital team. We are looking for a digitally savvy writer and editor with a passion for all things home, garden, and food. Day-to-day, you will be responsible for writing, editing, and creating high-quality content (leveraging available metrics) for BHG.com; partnering with SEO on content quality projects; and otherwise supporting all editorial efforts. The right candidate will demonstrate a deep understanding of the BHG aesthetic and brand and should be comfortable working in a fast-paced environment with tight deadlines. S/he must be detail driven, able to juggle many tasks at once, proficient in using analytic tools, and willing to learn to operate in multiple databases and content management systems. The Associate Editor will work with their direct manager to improve editorial content and user experience to ultimately grow traffic, audience engagement, and revenue.

About Your Contributions
Pitch, research, and write news and evergreen content optimized for performance on multiple traffic channels (search, social, newsletters)
Perform relevant SEO research, creating assignments for optimized content creation, and top-editing news and evergreen stories that you assign to freelance and contract writers
Monitor site and social metrics to curate, assign, and edit on-brand stories that drive traffic on multiple channels
Stay up-to-date on industry trends and market launches, and identify relevant story opportunities. Attend press events as needed
Assist with essential functions such as updating channel programming, producing/building content as needed, scheduling content, QA and editing content, and optimizing existing content

III. Minimum Qualifications and Job Requirements | All must be met to be considered.

Education:

Bachelor's degree, preferably in journalism or communications.

Experience:

Minimum 2 years experience developing and curating digital content for web, email, and
social environments against business goals.

Specific Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Should have a strong interest in, and preferably background in, editing or writing about home, garden, or food.
Consistently up to date with industry trends; able to identify topics of interest to a wide audience.
Detail-oriented and deadline-focused with solid proofing skills. Strong copywriter, capable of writing engaging, lively headlines and blurbs.
Proactive, flexible team player with a sense of humor and entrepreneurial energy, able to roll with the punches and take ownership in a fluid and fast-moving environment.
Operating experience with content management systems and web analytics tools and experience using data and revenue goals to inform and develop digital strategies.
Travel Required (Approximate): Potential for 1x a year between NY and DSM offices
