Job Description
The CBS owned and operated duopoly in West Sacramento has an immediate opening for a freelance sports reporter.
The Freelance Sports Reporter will provide sports coverage for KOVR/KMAX news programs and online properties. The reporter must be able to set up, shoot and edit sports-related stories for presentation to viewers. Knowledge of a variety of popular sports is required as well as on-going issues related to the sports industry. As a sports reporter, you will be required to cover and report in both live and recorded formats inside and outside of the TV station. Anchoring experience, shooting, writing and editing are required for this position. Proven experience working in multiple digital platforms will enhance your application. Must be able to professionally deliver information, clearly and concisely in a television and digital format. Engaging, compelling writing and excellent oral skills are essential.
Must have at least 3 years of professional television experience, with at least 2 years as a sports reporter/anchor. Familiarity with the California region and a knowledge of the area's predominant sports franchises and local collegiate teams is desired. You must be able to operate video and editing equipment, with competency on the computer and must hold a valid driver's license to be able to drive to sports stories.

Candidates should have a strong background in putting compelling stories together for our viewers. More than three years television news experience required. (Please do not apply if you do not have a background in television news).
Candidates should have a working knowledge of NLE platforms (GRASS VALLEY EDIUS is a plus). Candidates should be flexible enough to work morning's, nights and weekends at a moment's notice. We're looking for storytellers and team players. You must be very creative and have a passion for news. No phone calls please.
Qualifications:
• 3 Years television experience editing news and special features.
• Sound journalistic judgment
• An eye for visual storytelling
• Deadline oriented
• Proficient non-linear editor.
• Excellent communications skills
• Ability to work any shift
• Ability to work on-site or at home
$18-$25/hr depending on experience

Hiring Salary Range: $40.0 - 45.0.
The hiring salary range for this position applies to New York, California, Colorado, Washington state, and most other geographies. Starting pay for the successful applicant depends on a variety of job-related factors, including but not limited to geographic location, market demands, experience, training, and education.
