Producer, Evening News

Job Description

The flagship broadcast for CBS News is seeking a full-time news producer! This producer will be responsible for story identification, character booking, budgeting, logistics, story production, script writing and postproduction in a demanding newsroom environment. The producer should be comfortable and proficient in all newsgathering including gathering news footage, interviews and producing remote live shots for the national broadcast. When in the New York newsroom, the producer is often tasked as a catching producer who assists in completing a colleague's story. CBS Evening News producers regularly pitch stories which include proprietary reporting. Producers at the CBS Evening News are also tasked to plan and coordinate major event coverage and anchor remotes. The producer must be a creative, productive, effective, resilient problem solver both in the newsroom and in the field.

Basic Qualifications:
• 5 years of experience at a national news organization
• Excellent news writing skills
• Willingness to travel at anytime

Additional Qualifications
• Degree in Journalism, Communications or related is preferred
• Ability to proficiently shoot high quality video and interview elements for broadcast
• Ability to do desktop editing
• Eagerness to incorporate new media strategies and technologies.
• Ability to partner and work across internal departments and teams to execute flawlessly
• Position demands extremely strong editorial judgement and impeccable writing ability.
• Ability to multi-task and excel in a dynamic, quickly changing environment.
• Candidate should anticipate occasionally irregular hours as breaking news cycles and broadcast workflows dictate.
• Fluency in a foreign language is appreciated

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

Hiring Salary Range: $120,000.00 - 160,000.00.

The hiring salary range for this position applies to New York, California, Colorado, Washington state, and most other geographies. Starting pay for the successful applicant depends on a variety of job-related factors, including but not limited to geographic location, market demands, experience, training, and education. The benefits available for this position include medical, dental, vision, 401(k) plan, life insurance coverage, disability benefits, tuition assistance program and PTO or, if applicable, as otherwise dictated by the appropriate Collective Bargaining Agreement.
