Legal interns are vital contributors to the work of the Office of the General Counsel (''OGC''). The OGC is responsible for providing high quality, cost-efficient, legal and related services to our NPR clients. The OGC offers challenging and diverse work assignments for legal interns as it provides legal assistance to all divisions of NPR. The OGC handles a wide variety of legal issues, including: FCC regulatory; First Amendment; Internet; intellectual property, including music rights, content licensing, copyright and trademark; nonprofit tax; technology, such as software licensing; employment and labor, including Title VII, labor relations and other aspects of the employer-employee relationship; and corporate law, as well as contracts in all areas.

INTERN RESPONSIBILITIES

Legal interns are expected to contribute in all practice areas. Interns conduct legal research and prepare legal memoranda, contracts and other legal documents. They also participate in client meetings, legislative and regulatory meetings, and other ''outside-the-library'' projects, such as observing legal proceedings and attending legal training sessions offered through the District of Columbia Bar Association or other local organizations.

WHO CAN APPLY?

Location: This internship may be fully remote, onsite at our Washington, DC office (subject to NPR's health and safety measures), or a hybrid version of the two.

Education: Applicants must be current students in an accredited law school program (1L, 2L, or 3L).

PREFERRED SKILLS

Applications from law students who have completed their first year, at a minimum, will be considered if they have relevant background experience or strong academic credentials and legal research and writing skills.

SCHEDULE

NPR offers legal internships throughout the year. Course credit may be obtained by arrangement with individual law schools. During the summer, law clerks are expected to work full time, 40 hours per week for 12 weeks. Fall and Spring internships can be on a part-time schedule (usually 15 - 20 hours per week) or full-time schedule.

Application submissions for Office of the General Counsel Internship – Spring 2023 will close on November 30th, 2022, at 11:59pm ET.

Does this sound like you? If so, we want to hear from you. All applications must include a cover letter and resume to be considered. All interns must have authorization to work in the United States. Please also include the following to be considered:
• an unofficial law school transcript
• a legal writing sample
• names and contact information for three references, at least two of whom should be familiar with the applicant's legal research and writing skills (reference letters are not required)
