Job Description
WXIA (11Alive), the TEGNA-owned NBC affiliate in Atlanta, GA is looking for an engaging Multi-Skilled Journalist to focus on traffic – one of 11Alive's four content pillars. In Atlanta, traffic impacts everyone and everything; we cover the pain points and pet peeves, construction previews, big event routes, cost of parking, infrastructure strain, public transportation, the world's busiest airport, expansion of the Beltline etc. In short, you will be our expert on the daily challenges of getting around the fast-growing Atlanta metro. If you are an innovative self-starter with experience covering traffic and transportation as a beat, we'd love to hear from you.
In this role, you will generate enterprise stories on the transportation beat that appear across all dayparts and digital platforms. Many of those story ideas will come from viewers, and we respond! The ideal candidate also thrives in a live breaking news environment, brings the ability to create informative graphics, and demonstrates a strong knowledge and understanding of the importance of a smooth commute to everyday lives. You should also be comfortable giving real-time traffic reports in studio, as backup to our main traffic anchor.
We believe our newsroom culture sets 11Alive apart because of our news managers' strong commitment to our employees' professional growth, training, regular feedback, and mentoring. If you're a great teammate who seeks a collaborative, inclusive newsroom, you belong at 11Alive!
Responsibilities:
• Gather and present information regarding traffic news on broadcast, streaming and web platforms.
• Perform live reports and interviews on transportation, news, and community stories
• Collaborate with producers, assignment and digital editors, and co-anchors
• Communicate with the traffic information providers and emergency personnel
• Develop contacts and turn enterprise content for newscasts and online platforms
• Perform other duties, as assigned
Requirements:
• Bachelor degree in journalism or related field
• Minimum of five-seven years of on-air experience as a traffic reporter or a strong interest in covering transportation as a beat.
• Demonstrated ability to post graphics and content to various digital media platforms.
• Availability to work a morning news schedule
• Camera and editing skills, preferred
• Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced and deadline driven environment.
• Current valid driver's license and excellent driving history
• Familiarity with Atlanta or a reason to relocate here, a plus
