Associate Producer

Job Description

WUSA-TV is hiring an Associate Producer to join Get Up DC, the fastest growing morning newscast in Washington, DC. We're looking for an innovative individual who can write smart, crisp copy with a creative edge. You must have excellent storytelling skills, superior news judgment, thrive under deadline pressure, and have an overwhelming attention to detail. You are constantly curious and knowledgeable about politics, social media trends and pop culture. You enjoy digging into details to find the most interesting part about a story and making it resonate with our viewers. Most importantly, you are willing to voice your point of view and contribute to the editorial process.

Responsibilities: 
• Research and craft stories in a way that connects with our viewers
• Write smart, crisp, clean copy for Get Up DC
• Communicate critical story information to producers and managers
• Pitch story ideas
• Search the internet and social media for unique stories and additional nuggets of information to provide context and insight
• Produce newscast when needed

Job Requirements:

Requirements: 
• 1-3 years of news writing or producing experience
• Excellent writing skills
• Knowledge of current events, politics, and pop culture
• Ability to work collaboratively with others under intense deadline pressure
• Ability to work independently and make smart decisions on your own
• Willingness to listen, learn and grow from constructive feedback

Work Environment: Office

Travel: Rarely: less than 10%
