Meteorologist, WTVR (Part-Time)
WTVR, The E.W. Scripps Company CBS affiliate in historic Richmond, Virginia, is seeking a Part-Time Meteorologist to join its award-winning weather team. With a rich legacy of serving the local community, WTVR has become an essential source of trusted weather information and news coverage for the residents of Richmond and the surrounding region. As a Meteorologist at WTVR, you will have the opportunity to leverage your expertise in analyzing meteorological data and delivering compelling, informative weather forecasts that keep the community well-informed and prepared. You will play a critical role in delivering accurate and easy-to-understand weather forecasts across multiple platforms, including our television broadcasts, website, and social media channels such as Facebook, YouTube, Instagram, and TikTok. Nestled in the heart of the Commonwealth, Richmond is known for its diverse array of cultural attractions, from the renowned museums and performing arts venues to the thriving culinary scene. WHAT YOU'LL DO:
• Prepare and deliver daily weathercasts utilizing all available weather data and graphics computers.
• Prepare and deliver urgent weather updates interrupting regular programming as necessary.
• Prepare and deliver all weathercast materials over a variety of mediums, including, but not limited to: TV, Radio, Internet.
• Create engaging and easy-to-understand weather updates for the station's website.
• Produce informative and visually appealing social media content related to weather forecasts.
• Utilize video editing skills to enhance social media posts and videos.
• Simplify complex weather information for a broad audience.
• Report live from event sites or mobile broadcast unit.
• Perform other duties as needed and assigned.
WHAT YOU'LL NEED:
• Bachelors degree in Meteorology preferred
• Generally 3+ years experience in related field preferred
WHAT YOU'LL BRING:
• Computer literacy, including weather and newsroom computer systems
• Knowledge of broadcast quality camera equipment
• Knowledge of editing systems
• Strong broadcast and AP style writing skills
• Proficient at posting content to various websites
• Proficiency in social media video editing
• Self-motivated and able to work in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment
• Valid driver's license, good driving record, and ability to provide proof of insurance with the company required insurance limits
