The ideal candidate will have a warm, engaging, and relatable on-air presence, a calm and authoritative demeanor during severe weather events, and a flexible, collaborative approach that thrives in fast-paced environments.
Responsibilities:
• Deliver clear, engaging weather reports by researching, preparing, and presenting forecasts in a conversational and relatable manner that shows how weather impacts daily life.
• Provide live updates during severe weather events, interrupting programming as necessary while maintaining a calm and authoritative presence.
• Utilize cutting-edge weather tools, graphics, and storytelling techniques to create compelling visuals and content across TV, digital, and social platforms.
• Develop unique weather content for digital platforms, including streaming, websites and social media, with updates tailored for the day's events and weather impacts.
• Represent WTHR at public appearances, such as school visits and community events, to foster trust and build relationships with viewers.
• Work closely with the weather team to ensure comprehensive and cohesive coverage during severe weather and seasonal events.
Requirements:
• A Bachelor of Science in Meteorology, Atmospheric Science, or a related field is required.
• A minimum of five years of on-air meteorology experience is required, with a proven track record of covering severe weather events including tornadoes, flooding, and winter storms.
• Ability to create accurate, visually compelling weather graphics using modern broadcast weather platforms like Baron or WSI/The Weather Company.
• Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain complex weather data in a clear and relatable way.
• Strong social media and online content creation skills, with the ability to interact meaningfully with audiences across platforms.
• A warm, engaging, and relatable on-air presence combined with a calm and authoritative demeanor during severe weather events.
• A flexible and collaborative team player who thrives in fast-paced environments.
• Strong public speaking and storytelling skills are highly valued.
• AMS Seal or equivalent certification is preferred.
• Familiarity with Baron is a plus.
