Job Summary/Description:
WNEM-TV's Digital Executive Producer is a newsroom manager who leads editorial acquisition and presentation on all digital platforms, including our station website, and established and emerging social media channels. Our Digital EP embraces our Digital First newsroom philosophy: Break News on Digital, Push News on Social, and Add Emotion and Texture on Television. The Digital EP manages our newsroom team of Producers, and works side by side with other news managers, and reporters, establishing and maintaining best practices. The position requires having a daily and long term vision, ability to inspire greatness in others, and dedication to challenge the status quo.
Duties/Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
• Write copy for web, including pre-planned and breaking news coverage.
• Break news by writing dynamic copy and sending pushes on the App
• Copy edit stories produced by others to insure product exceeds station expectations
• Brainstorm on-air engagement opportunities, using available and emerging technology
• Collaborate coverage with regional and corporate newsgathering partners
• Monitor Live News Sources, to push happening now content on Digital and Social Streams
• Track over-performing stories and social media engagement from our newsroom and competitors
• Share day-part digital metrics in daypart editorial meetings
• Develop story-specific social media strategy for daily and promotable coverage
• Works with Gray Digital Media to ensure WNEM-TV becomes a newsroom for early adoption and example of best-practices
• Impacts and influences newsroom by making daily decisions consistent with newsroom leadership
• Appear on-air to showcasing over-performing web content, and lead social interaction
• Helps recruit and train new web and newscast producers
Qualifications/Requirements:
• 2-4 years of producing experience for digital and social media in a commercial newsroom
• Demonstrated understanding of AP Style
• Working knowledge of CMS and Digital platforms, including Clickability, Social News Desk and Crowdtangle
• Ability to work long hours, weekends, and overnights for breaking news and specialized coverage
• A BA/BS degree in journalism or communication
