Job Description
Sports Staffer - Part-time

WLNS-TV, the CBS affiliate in this sports-crazy Big Ten town, has a rare opening for a job in our sports department.

We're looking for a utility player – someone who can write, shoot, and edit to help support our three person department.
On top of nightly broadcasts at 6 & 11pm, the 6 Sports Team produces various sports specials throughout the year, including a Big 10 football preview, a bowl special, and a special each week the Spartans remain in the NCAA basketball tournament. We also produce the official Coaches Show for Michigan State University.

And we've got the 5th Quarter – our award-winning high school football/basketball show each Friday night during the school year.

But we don't limit ourselves to football and basketball. We cover a host of high school and Spartan sports - including, but not limited to hockey, baseball, softball, soccer, golf, and track. Our market is also home to a minor league baseball team and the Michigan International Speedway. You will be part of our coverage.

This is not a 9-to-5 job. And it's not for the lazy or faint of heart. There are long days and strange hours. You will work weekends. You will shoot your own stuff.

This is not an on-air position but it's a great way to get your start in this very competitive part of the business. The person in this position will work 20-30 hours a week. We are also willing to consider a part-time temporary position for someone who can work from August through April.

Qualifications: a degree (or expected degree) in journalism, communications, or a related field. Strong writing, editing, and shooting skills. A passion for sports in all of its forms and deep knowledge of sports history. Newsroom experience of some kind is strongly preferred.

Jobcode: Reference SBJ-d9b049-18-119-104-238-42 in your application.
