Lead Newscast Director

Job Description

WJLA is looking for a Lead Newscast Director. This job requires early mornings, late nights, weekends and holidays.

Responsibilities

Perform any production duties as assigned including:
• Direct any assigned newscasts and productions
• Run the day-to-day operations of the Production Department
• Serve as the technical lead in the booth for all special recordings, programming, and election coverage
• Be available to cover all open positions such as TelePrompTer, Graphics, Floor Director, Audio, Robotic Cameras and Technical Director as needed
• Train production crew in cameras, audio, graphics, etc.
• Serve as the creative lead and work in collaboration with our Lead Technical Director on creating new shots and effects
• Supervise and assist with the management of the production crew, to include but not limited to scheduling, hiring, and performance management.
• Maintain cleanliness and proper operation of two production studios and control rooms
• Work with Production Manager, Lead Technical Director, Executive Producers, and Producers on improving workflow and other areas for all shows
• Learn and operate all aspects of tuning in live shots, bringing in feeds, setting recordings, etc.
• Learn and train on Ross Overdrive automation
• Attend weekly meetings with Production Manager and Lead Technical Director to ensure proper communication about our successes and challenges
• Perform other tasks related to the position as assigned

Requirements:
• Experience in all aspects of a newscast including but not limited to Directing and Technical Directing
• An extremely flexible schedule.
• Knowledge of production standards and equipment
• Knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite, INews and Avid systems preferred
• Ability to clearly give direction to crew while under pressure
• Typing, proper grammar, and good spelling skills necessary
• Ability to read and write, college degree preferred
• Ability to interact and communicate with all levels of management
• Must be able to lift & position 40 pound lighting instruments
