Job Description

Your New Role…

Reporting to the SVP Head of Intellectual Property at Warner Bros. Discovery, the VP, Intellectual Property (Copyright) is a key member of the intellectual property team and a subject matter expert in all areas of copyright law relevant to the media and entertainment industry.

Your Role Accountabilities…
• Provide substantive legal and commercial advice on all areas of copyright law relevant to the Company including, but not limited to, copyright termination (sections 203/304), 1909 Copyright Act, Stewart v. Abend, fair use, parody, foreign reversion, and international copyright.
• Assess and advise on rights, obligations, and restrictions around the use of intellectual property in connection with the production of film and television.
• Provide expert guidance on chain of title issues.
• Advise on right of publicity issues in production and marketing and life story rights related issues.
• Evaluate and counsel clients on issues related to moral rights, neighboring rights, and related IP issues.
• Evaluate and respond to various intellectual property claims.
• Supervise and/or partner with outside counsel on copyright and related intellectual property litigation.
• Stay apprised of meaningful developments in copyright law and how such developments may affect the Company and media and entertainment industry.

Qualifications & Experience…
• At least 10 years of relevant, substantive copyright and production clearance related experience.
• Experience as in-house counsel and/or within the entertainment industry is highly preferred but not required.
• BA/BS degree
• JD degree from an accredited law school
• Admission to California state bar; must be in good standing
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills; and the ability to influence others to collaborate effectively are essential.
• Ability to conceptualize and articulate practical and creative solutions to meet business needs and legal requirements.
• Ability to spot and analyze complex issues and devise practical strategies and solutions.
• Extensive experience counseling clients at all levels and proven ability to become a trusted advisor regarding IP issues.
• Must be able to prepare, negotiate, and interpret agreements and other legal documents.
• Must be able to research legal questions and be able to clearly present complex legal advice in a fast-paced environment.

The Legal Bits…
In compliance with local law, we are disclosing the compensation, or a range thereof, for roles in locations where legally required. $197,050.00 - $365,950.00 salary per year. Other rewards may include annual bonuses, short- and long-term incentives, and program-specific awards. In addition, Warner Bros. Salary Details
Salary Range: $197,050 to $365,950 Per Year ($ USD)
