General Summary:

The Broadcast Sound Operator is responsible for the set up, mixing and monitoring of the live sport events audio broadcast through the WBD Sport Studios. These new facilities consist of Studios, Galleries and Sound Control rooms, Commentary Booths and Multi-Function Rooms, which are operatorial 365 days a year

A key focus of this role is to operationally deliver the best audio content achievable for the sporting events we produce from around the world.

You will be responsible for ensuring the gallery team, commentators and presenters have the required comms for broadcast and the audio is mixed and recorded to the highest standards.

You will work across a wide array of disciplines within the audio team, from supporting the sound guarantee on live events., working with Audio Operators to deliver on digital and linear channels audio to working on the studio floor with talent and guests ensuring the mic and Talkback are ready for broadcast.

This role is shift based to cover the productions broadcast schedule, it is dual located, Chiswick and Stockley Park. From time to time there may be a requirement to work on location internationally.

Key Responsibilities:
• Accountable and responsible for the operational activation, adjustment, monitoring and recording of multiple sound sources during live events
• Work in partnership with clients to interpret production needs and set up requirements, ensuring all comms and audio feeds are set up and configured to agreed requirements before going live.
• Work closely with both locally and international production teams, to ensure audio guidelines are followed and all stings and beds are up to date.
• Deliver clear notes and documentation to other operators and the wider production team
• Ensure all audio is logged and tagged for each live production to support with future edit, clearances and rights agreements.
• Ensure all set up and testing of equipment is done in a timely manner and all required content is in place and levels have been checked.
• Working collaboratively with the live broadcasting teams to ensure a seamless delivery of the events.
• Be a point of contact for upcoming productions and on live broadcast days which you are assigned.
• Support upgrades and testing of Lawo desks and corporate systems to ensure all equipment is functioning to the desired standard.
• Provide Sound Operator daily report for each production
• Work collaboratively with other GT&O organisations i.e. MAM, Ingest, Engineering, MCR, Programming, OAP, Preview Team and Transmission ensuring working relationships and communication are of the highest standards
• Contribute to the development of training plans to deliver staff and freelancer training requirements as necessary
• Identify key development opportunities for improved workflows, system development and enhanced reporting
• Work in partnership with the bookings team and facility management team to ensure efficient utilisation of all technical and human resources
• Promote sharing of best practice and process change opportunities to support an efficient and effective department.

Requirements:
• Operational experience of managing multiple sound inputs from a variety of locations at one time.
• A working knowledge of both remote and studio audio broadcast set up
• Effective problem solver, able to find solutions to technical problems and recording challenges
• Working knowledge of industry standard routing systems and editing software
• Proven ability to successfully form and manage relationships with production teams and clients.
• Self-motivated and able to manage own workload with minimal supervision
• Ability to work within a team environment and with a wide range of personalities and levels of authority
• Adaptable and flexible in a challenging, demanding and fast-paced environment
• Clear communicator in high pressured situations
• Strong team player and solid interpersonal skills
• A passion for sport and a drive to deliver the best work they can
Onsite Working - This role is advertised as Onsite, meaning all working hours and days (regardless of shift pattern) will be carried out at the place of work. Subject to any applicable laws, WBD / your Line Manager reserves the right to change this working agreement, where this is essential to business needs and upon reasonable notice to you.
