Meet Our Team:
The Database Reliability Engineering (DRE) team owns the global, cloud-native (AWS) database infrastructure for the Max and HBO Max platforms. We are not a team of traditional ''on-prem DBAs.'' Deep knowledge of databases is a core competency for our engineers, but we take inspiration from the Reliability Engineering discipline, and we invest significantly in cloud automation. Our ideal candidate combines database skills with cloud knowledge, software engineering expertise, and operational excellence.
Roles & Responsibilities:
• You have a platform-wide view of the solutions that you build, and you consistently think in terms of architecture.
• You have built multiple high-performance, stable, scalable systems that have been successfully shipped to customers in production.
• You show good judgement making trade-offs between immediate and long-term business needs.
• You still actively seek input where appropriate and engage your team to inform and share what you are doing.
• You can describe and defend your design and code decisions to other engineers, embrace constructive feedback, and adapt your approach to align with team and company standards and objectives.
• You offer enhancements to best practices, document, design, and architecture improvements, and as feedback through code reviews to other engineers without continuous prompting or recurring encouragement. Other engineers appreciate your feedback.
• You can troubleshoot a production issue by reviewing source code, logs, operational metrics, stack trace etc. to pinpoint a specific problem and then resolve it.
• You can partner with SRE and service team engineers, to devise database solutions that satisfy service team needs.
• Contribute to building a vibrant workplace, where teams can thrive, and model the organization's positive, supportive culture of respect and excellence.
What to Bring:
• 3-5 years of hands-on experience and technical leadership with cloud-native database technologies in a production environment and familiarity with AWS database services (Aurora Postgres, DynamoDB, ElastiCache, Keyspaces).
• 2+ years of experience working in public or private cloud environments, with preference for AWS.
• Experience with CI/CD pipelines, repeatable self-serve gitops-based deployments, and infrastructure-as-code technologies (CloudFormation, Terraform) and processes.
• Familiarity with elements of our greater service tech stack, including containerized Kubernetes-based microservice architectures, performance testing platform and tools, JS, APMs, messaging services, API gateways.
• Proficient in functional programming languages (including Python) as well as declarative programming languages (e.g. SQL, MYSQL).
• You are experienced in hands-on database administration for both SQL and NoSQL technologies.
• You drive best practices and set standards for your team.
• You solve business problems with simple and straightforward solutions, applying appropriate technologies and software engineering best practices.
• You deliver high-quality results the first time and improve code, documentation, and results with each iteration. Your team trusts your work.
What We Offer:
• A Great Place to work.
• Equal opportunity employer
• Fast-track growth opportunities.
