Overview:
The Engineering Manager will oversee a Team of Engineers in the Chiswick Park facility covering the Tier 2 Global Broadcast Engineering functions in support of Global Cloud Playout. Additionally, they will coordinate and participate in projects, upgrades, and routine maintenance in the Global Broadcast Engineering Department; Taking on the role of Project Manager when assigned, responsible for coaching, resolving issues and serving as a link between subordinates and upper management.
Responsibilities:
• Manage the London Tier 2 Global Broadcast Engineering Team.
• Liaise with and advise the US Global Broadcast Engineering Teams.
• Provide technical support for the engineering staff in the form of training and education. Scheduling appropriate training for members of the engineering department.
• Monitoring employee productivity and providing constructive feedback, identify performance improvement and coaching.
• Setting measurable goals for performance and deadlines in ways that comply with company's plans and core values.
• Managing the workflow of the engineering staff and delegating tasks.
• Lead daily status calls with on shift Engineering and Operations Teams.
• Act as a liaison and take part in regular meetings between Broadcast Operations and other Engineering Teams.
• Work with Operations and Engineering department concerning hardware/software upgrades, system/network issues as well as system/network expansion.
• Evaluate new technology and make recommendations regarding equipment selection, software selection and testing with the Operations department.
• Write SOP's pertaining to the various systems and processes that support Global Cloud Playout.
• Provide input on equipment and software purchases.
• Keep track of all engineering time off requests and ensuring coverage on all engineering shifts.
• Work closely with vendors and/or internal departments for optimal hardware/software configuration and support.
• Ensure service levels are met by monitoring and updating incident tracking system/s for timely resolution of critical issues.
• Work closely with counterparts in Sterling, VA & Atlanta, GA.
• Out of hours on-call escalation point for the engineering team.
Basic Qualifications:
• A BSc or BA degree in Computer science, Electrical Engineering or an equivalent combination of skills, training, and experience is required.
• Experience in a Broadcast Engineering or networking/system administration.
• Knowledge of public cloud solutions (primarily AWS), video storage
(AWS S3) and playout systems and their workflows.
• Strong understanding of the following IT technologies: TCP/IP, UDP, RTP, VLANs, and multicast protocols. Server and storage administration. Experience in VMware, WinOS, and Linux.
• Proven experience as Manager, Supervisor, or project management role.
• Networking certification and network troubleshooting experience a plus.
• Understanding of SMPTE 2022-7, SMPTE 2110, NDI, RTP, SCTE, Subtitles, CC
708/608 Dolby AC3 standards, and Transport Streams
• Ability to perform well in a high-pressure environment.
• Excellent problem-solving, organizational, leadership and communication skills.
• Ability to work flexible hours when required.
Other requirements:
• Intermediate to advanced level Networking, SAN, and/or other relevant training courses a plus.
• Knowledge of networking, firewalls, routers, Active Directory & load balancers.
• Working knowledge of MPEG-4 encoders, MPEG Transport Stream analyzers and satellite transmission equipment
• Preferred IT certification ex. CCNA, MCP, CompTIA A+/Network+, AWS Certified Solutions Architect – Associate, VMware Associate or equivalent are also a plus.
• Preferred understanding of broadcast automation systems.
• Demonstrated knowledge of serial digital broadcast equipment and measurement equipment.
• Understanding of signal routing control systems to route video/audio and Video-over-IP signals.
• Experience working with utilizing Network Management Systems (NMS), SNMP MIBs, OIDs, traps.
• Ability to support multiple server types to configure/troubleshoot: Windows/Linux workstation/server applications, operating systems, and hardware components.
• Creation and use of standard operating procedures, technical reference documents and drawings.
Hybrid Working - This role is advertised as a Hybrid work model, that combines remote and in-office work, following our current company policy and to be agreed with your Line Manager. Subject to any applicable laws, WBD / your Line Manager reserves the right to change this working agreement where this is essential to business needs and upon reasonable notice to you.
