Engineering Supervisor (Broadcast Live Production)

Media Technology & Operations is a group that is passionate about building and supporting technology to enable storytellers to connect, entertain and inform audiences everywhere. Our Live Production Engineering team in the CNN Hong Kong Bureau focuses on supporting the technology needs of newsgathering in the Asia-Pacific region.

We are seeking a dynamic and experienced individual to supervise a small team of engineers at the CNN Hong Kong bureau, supporting our technology operations in the Asia-Pacific region.

Your Role Accountabilities

Team Leadership and mentoring a team of engineers, ensuring adherence to company policies, technical standards, and health and safety protocols. Make final decisions on daily technical resource allocation and staffing levels, especially during critical situations.

Lead technical initiatives, projects, and contingency planning efforts. Provide guidance and resources throughout all stages of projects, from inception and planning to budgeting, procurement, installation, and testing. Liaise with stakeholders to ensure seamless execution and completion, including training, documentation, and follow-up accounting work.

Ensure that new live production installations and initiatives meet Warner Bros. Discovery standards and operational requirements while optimizing costs. Foster a culture of innovation and technical evolution within the team to maintain our competitive edge in the rapidly evolving industry.

Effectively communicate technical information with colleagues within CNN and across Warner Bros. Discovery, using the ITIL framework for our services lifecycle.

Managing the local engineering operating budget, including executing final orders, handling invoices and expenses, and closely monitoring spending. Collaborate with business and accounts departments to optimize budget utilization.

Pursue self-development opportunities in leadership, management, organizational skills, and technical knowledge. Liaise with vendors on the latest technical developments and follow emerging trends in the media technology industry.

Qualifications & Experience
• 7+ years in a broadcast environment - involving studio and live production, technical projects, systems design and installation work.
• Bachelor of Science Degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Media Information Systems, business, or equivalent education/training/experience.
• Must have 'All round' Engineering skills.
• Previous supervisory and leadership experience is desirable, along with strong communications skills.
• An ability to overcome system and equipment level problems and find workaround solutions is vital.
• Knowledge/experience with Digital, Cloud and IP-based video production and contribution technologies.
• Hands on experience building, managing, and supporting satellite-based equipment is highly desirable.
• Must show advance computer skills with experience in software & hardware, and platform infrastructure.
