Director, External Communications

Job Description

Reporting to the Senior Vice President of Corporate Communications, you will be responsible for leading media relations and external communications projects across WBD's corporate and brand teams. Your role will work cross functionally across WBD to support our corporate communications activities to further advance our overall corporate voice and narrative. You will support the development and execution of communications strategies and tactics related to corporate communications, media relations, and crisis communications.

As the Director of Corporate Communications, you will interface with leaders internally as well as influential reporters who cover WBD. It will be important for you to stay current on developments affecting both WBD and its industry in order to effectively drive proactive and reactive media relations. In this role you will need to work across the organization to identify compelling data and storylines.

This role will require strong writing skills for materials including: press releases, blog posts, media briefing documents, talking points, and research documents.

Your Role Accountabilities
• Making key decisions regarding media relations strategy, including response strategy for media inquiries
• Approving communication documents, speaking events, and interview requests
• Elevating concerns or information to more senior members of the team

Qualifications & Experience
• 10 -12 years of experience in communication, in-house or agency
• Excellent writing skills and significant media relations experience required
• In-depth knowledge of the media industry and related issues strongly preferred
• Corporate communications experience required; financial communications experience preferred
• Experience developing and delivering communications in fast-paced, highly dynamic environments strongly preferred.
• Excellent organizational and time management skills, able to balance multiple time-sensitive projects and deadlines simultaneously.
• Excellent communication and presentation skills, able to interact with executives and teams enterprise-wide.
• Ability to build trusted relationships with stakeholders at various levels across a global company.
• The ideal candidate will embrace opportunities to take on greater responsibilities and grow in the role. They must also be available to travel, and work nights and weekends as needed.
• Position based in Los Angeles/New York and works closely with the larger Corporate Communications team and with brands throughout the WBD portfolio.
• BA/BS degree in journalism, English, creative writing, communications/public relations or related field required

In compliance with local law, we are disclosing the compensation, or a range thereof, for roles in locations where legally required. Actual salaries will vary based on several factors, including but not limited to external market data, internal equity, location, skill set, experience, and/or performance. Base pay is just one component of Warner Bros. Discovery's total compensation package for employees. Pay Range: $112,000.00 - $208,000.00 salary per year. Other rewards may include annual bonuses, short- and long-term incentives, and program-specific awards. In addition, Warner Bros.
