Position Title: Director, Corporate Communications, Japan

Division: Communications, APAC

Location: Tokyo

Reports to: Head of Communications, Asia Pacific

Direct reports: None

The Role

The Director, Corporate Communications leads the development and execution of corporate communications strategies, corporate messaging, executive communications and internal communications for Warner Bros. Discovery in Japan, effectively positioning the business with employees, stakeholders, media and audiences.

The role spans corporate communications across multiple lines of Warner Bros. Discovery's business with an increased focus on streaming, linear and local production, and internal communications. It will work closely with PR colleagues across the local business to ensure our WBD Japan story is clear internally and externally, and our relationships are strong in areas that will support our growth.

The role reports to the Head of Communications, Asia Pacific, will be the central Communications Lead for local Executives and will work closely with other local functions such as Marketing, Publicity, Programming, Creative, Advertising Sales, Commercial Strategy, as well as the APAC Communications team. The role is key in both the APAC Communications and Japan Leadership teams.

Key Responsibilities:
• Leadership for all external and internal corporate communications in Japan, across multiple businesses locally, aligning to overall strategic narrative locally, regionally, and globally.
• Work with local leaders and businesses to develop a compelling company narrative.
• Develop and execute an annual external communications plan for Corporate Communications, including profile strategy for General Manager and other key Executives as required including interviews, conferences and speaking engagements.
• Create and drive compelling internal communications strategy, working closely with leadership and teams to ensure clear messaging for business and employee engagement initiatives, including ownership of all internal tools [e.g. Workplace] and events [i.e. Town Halls] at a local level.
• Lead communications approach and provide counsel, in consultation with Head of Communications, APAC, for internal and external crisis situations when required, including proactive planning for high-risk matters and reactive issues management.
• Develop and maintain key relationships with media and industry bodies that are relevant to the above strategies.
• Develop clear KPI's and measures of success for all communications initiatives.
• Partner effectively with all internal functions, including content, marketing, PR, research, commercial and advertising teams in Japan and internationally.

Requirements:
• 8 years' experience in corporate communications
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English and Japanese.
• Independent thinker with a strategic mindset and strong advisory skills who can also follow through with project execution.
• Demonstration of devising and implementing creative and strategic communication plans, including understanding of corporate positioning requirements.
• Understanding of Japan regulatory and public policy and how these relate to and impact on business.
• Dynamic personality, adaptable with a high-degree of professionalism and a team player.
• Comfortable with a large, diverse workload and working in a fast-paced environment.
• Ability to work with a variety of senior stakeholders across a global company and timezones.
• Ability to build and nurture relationships with press and key stakeholders.
• Experience of crisis management. Flexibility under tight deadlines and the ability to respond to urgent issues with calm and professionalism.
• Ability to assess priorities and always maintain composure and diplomacy.
