The Job

The Weekend Writer is a best-in-class business reporter. This is a role for a seasoned writer who has a nose for business news and a knack for writing breaking news across a wide variety of business topics, from companies to markets to the economy. The ideal candidate thrives on the breakneck pace of deadline journalism, has top-notch news judgment, a razor-sharp sense of immediacy and must love business news -- with a particular enthusiasm for contextualizing complex financial news topics for a broad consumer audience. This person is a strong collaborator who can work across teams to report on the most important business stories Friday through Monday.

The Daily
• Write a wide array of breaking business news stories on Friday, Saturday, Sunday and Monday.
• When a big business story breaks, the weekend writer will take the lead in starting and updating coverage for CNN's digital platforms.
• Update stories that break across the weekend.
• Work closely with newsgathering desks and digital editors to keep us sharp and fast on breaking news.
• A critical component of the job will be assisting with the live stories that are an essential part of our breaking news coverage.
• Care deeply about accuracy, urgency and integrity and in maintaining and growing the trust CNN has with audiences worldwide.
• CNN's writers are skillful and swift. They turn in clean, crisp copy on the first draft.
• This journalist will often help shape story ideas and angles around complex topics and will pitch and execute stories on their own.
• This person knows how to write briefly and breezily when needed but can also handle high-concept stories off the news.
• This person must be skilled at finding ways to cover the news of the day in distinctive ways that resonate with audiences.

The essentials
• 1-3 years of digital experience
• College degree or equivalent industry experience
• Strong editorial judgement, and knowledge of or passion for business and financial news
• Excellent writing and research skills
• Demonstrates leadership qualities
• Strong communication, team collaboration skills

Base pay is just one component of Warner Bros. Discovery's total compensation package for employees. Pay Range: $46,417.00 - $86,204.00 salary per year. Other rewards may include annual bonuses, short- and long-term incentives, and program-specific awards. In addition, Warner Bros. Discovery provides a variety of benefits to employees, including health insurance coverage, an employee wellness program, life and disability insurance, a retirement savings plan, paid holidays and sick time and vacation.
