Job Description
Walt Disney Animation Studios has an exciting opportunity for an experienced 2D Character Animator to join the team at our Vancouver, BC studio. Character animators are primarily creative draftsmen who must be able to express their ideas clearly, forcibly and quickly with a pencil-knowing thoroughly the skills of linear drawing. The beginner in this production area has mastered the mechanics of drawing animals and figures in action, and can caricature not only features, but actions, emotions, and situations. Prior training will have covered human and animal anatomy, perspective, composition, quick sketch and figure drawing and will have included solving problems in weight, balance, movement, space, construction, proportion and design.
Hybrid and Remote opportunities for our Vancouver Studio are specific to remote work within the province of British Columbia.
Instructions for specific position:
- Experience with hand drawn production.
- Ability to assist with design if needed. Character packeting, expression sheets, and pose exploration.
- Strong understanding of anatomy and design.
- Strong collaboration skills.
- Work with a team of artists to inspire, explore characters and performance with animation tests before CG assets are built.
- Provide Hand drawn animation on projects that have 2d elements and sequences.
- Work with the crew to help with artistic choices and design sense.
- Drawover support for character, animation, and CFX asset and shot production.
- Hair and Cloth drawovers to help CFX timing, and design aesthetic.
Character Animation artists should include a demo reel of scenes you've animated. Basic portfolio contents:
- Animated tests and or production work. (non-cleanup anim is preferred)
- Several pages of current life drawing abilities.
- Pages from sketchbooks that show your thought process through drawing.
- Personal work, or other artistic endeavors that showcase your artistic range of abilities.
