Job Description

Eater is looking for an experienced reporter to contribute news stories, features, and maps to our New York city site, one of its marquee publications. This is a full-time in-unit position with benefits.

WHAT YOU'LL DO
• Write and contribute to daily news stories, reported features, and service-oriented pieces such as maps and guides while adhering to deadlines
• Help the NY team meet its editorial calendar requirements and goals
• Assist with some editing duties as needed
• Ensure all copy produced meets our style guide, SEO goals, and editorial standards
• Track openings and develop sources including chefs, restaurateurs, relevant spokespeople, and alternative sources for coverage
• Write social posts and or create stories or reels for Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, and newsletters for Eater NY
• Pitch creative,defining big-picture ideas
• Develop expertise in the food and restaurant culture of New York
• Participate in cross-brand efforts and collaboration with the national Eater.com team, including cross-network
• Dine out widely, with enthusiasm for everything from the burger spot in a Brooklyn gas station to a new Midtown-tailored spot from a big-name chef

WHO YOU ARE
• Experience in journalism, particularly with breaking daily news, developing sources, and covering a beat. Experience covering restaurants, hospitality, or real estate is a plus.
• Curiosity to learn more about what you don't know and a willingness to bone up on new topics
• Ideas for ambitious storytelling when it comes to New York food and restaurants
• A knack for juggling daily news stories with ongoing enterprise stories while adhering to deadlines
• Comfort with cold calling, quick deadlines, and a sense of urgency surrounding the fast pace of digital news
• A drive to build on Eater's reputation as the number-one source of NYC restaurant news
• A drive to predict vs. react to the news cycle
• Attention to detail, news judgment, and an eye for accuracy
• A desire and interest in covering communities and cultivating diverse sources: Fluency in languages other than English is an asset.
• Interest in digital headline writing, analytics, and social media publishing
• A willingness to hit the pavement, to go into restaurants and kitchens, and wherever else you might track down information and sources
• A love for restaurants and knowledge of the local scene and at the very least a voraciousness to become an expert in the industry

PAY TRANSPARENCY

The salary range listed below represents the minimum and maximum base pay for this position at the time of this posting. Final salary offered to the candidate selected for the position will be based on factors including but not limited to the candidate's skills and experience.

Pay Range

$74,000 — $80,000 USD
