Job Description

KVDA is looking for an Operations Manager to support the technical day-to-day operation of the television station, managing the control room, live productions, and remote capabilities. This position is responsible for the technical operation and also serves as the key engagement lead to other division & enterprise groups to ensure successful delivery of these services to their internal client groups.

Qualifications

Responsibilities
• Provide strategic, logistical planning, and insight to upcoming events, special programs and/or elements to be included in news coverage.
• Responsible for Productions Control Room and Studio Technology including direct supervision of Automated Production Control (APC) Operators.
• Lead, develop, and coordinate electronic and digital news gathering operations: video gathering, editing, remote broadcasts, microwave, ENG trucks and news vehicle and system maintenance.
• Responsible of station Vehicle Fleet.
• Provide technical guidance, to news gathering personnel, including Photojournalist or others as assigned.
• Support News operations.
• Ensure necessary equipment is in place and in working order to support assigned employees.
• Oversee staffing and supervisory duties, including hiring, scheduling, of Editors, and work group members in accordance with station policies.
• Mentor and develop news employees' technology skills, especially in the use of digital and remote tools.
• Collaborate in the planning of the TV News operating and capital budgets.
• Budget, plan, and manage large remote broadcasts including breaking news and special events.
• Available by phone 24x7 for breaking news and disaster recovery scenarios.
• Be involved with the station disaster recovery procedures for News & Production teams.
• Be fully proficient with the newsroom& production computer systems usage.
• Contribute to the direction of Telemundo San Antonio News operations through regular and clear communications with News and Technology Department Heads, other Department Heads and employees.
• Have a deep understanding of media workflow efficiency tools that impact in house and field operations and train end users on how to use them.
• Attend monthly NBCU all stations news gathering and media operations meetings.

Basic Qualifications
• Must possess a bachelor's degree or equivalent experience.
• Must be willing to work in the field in all types of weather conditions, varying work schedules, and to travel as part of assigned duties.
• More than 3 years' experience with Automated Production Control (APC) systems, Electronic News Gathering (ENG) technologies, and News Editing.
• Must be able to lift 50 lbs.
• Must have a driver's license.

Eligibility Requirements:
• Must be willing to work in San Antonio
• Willingness to travel and work outside standard hours, and on weekends with short notice
• Must have unrestricted work authorization to work in the United States
• Must be 18 years or older
• Must be covered by Solutions, NBCU's Alternative Dispute Resolution Program

Desired:
• Written and oral fluency in English and Spanish.
• Experience managing personnel.
• Have strong news judgment in multi-media platforms.
• More than 2 years' experience in news photography.
• High level of experience in technical expertise across emerging multi-media platforms.
• Knowledgeable about FCC rules and laws pertaining to news broadcasting in multi-media platforms, and employment and labor regulations.
• Understanding and demonstration of creativity, editorial judgment, journalistic ethics and technical expertise.
• Experience managing budgets, developing strategic plans and presenting in front of large audiences.
• Demonstrated ability to meet deadlines and successfully manage multiple assignments concurrently in a high pressure, breaking news environment.
• Good collaborative and interpersonal skills to communicate at all levels.
• A pioneering spirit with desire to learn emerging technologies and invent the future.
