What are we looking for?
We are looking for a Lead SDE/DevOps to join the technical leadership team at Tastemade! You will be able to own our standards around backend development, operational excellence, and devops tooling as we continue to evolve and level up our engineering culture. You will have a material impact on the lives of millions across our in-house properties, social media followings, and viewers of our award-winning catalog of cooking, design, and travel shows. We are a growing diverse and inclusive cross-discipline team with varying skill and experience levels.
Our Values:
• Tell a great story. Develop original and untold stories that inspire, excite, and delight. Great storytelling has the power to not only entertain but to shape culture.
• Embrace our world. Be globally-minded-value inclusivity and diversity, respect the richness of all cultures, and appreciate those who are different from yourself.
• Be constantly curious. Ask questions. Find answers. Always look for opportunities to learn and experience something new.
• Create community through experience. Treat every moment as an opportunity to create meaningful experiences to share. Shared moments build community.
• Own the Outcome. Think and act like an owner. You are entrusted to do what is best for Tastemade and for our community.
What you'll be doing:
You will be expected to act as a leader and mentor the other members of the team. You will receive continued opportunities to grow yourself via challenging technical problems, receiving peer-mentorship, and a culture that both supports and values your ongoing development and work-life balance.
• Provide ongoing mentorship for other engineers and help them to continually level up
• Collaborate with a cross-discipline team to ensure that your teammates are unblocked and are able to execute effectively
• Remain curious about new trends, potential threats, and possible opportunities in engineering with a focus on backend development, observability, and operational excellence
What you will own. As part of our technical leadership team, you will be expected to have not only a high degree of ownership over everything our teams touch, but also a deeper engagement when it comes to our backend services, operations, operational excellence, and devops tooling.
• Operate in a user-first mentality, prioritizing our user's security and the experience they have with our products and services
• The quality and reliability of everything our team builds
• Own the overall architectural patterns for our backend systems and infrastructure
• Establish and evolve patterns and tooling related to CI/CD, infrastructure orchestration, automated testing, localization, and overall developer experience
• Identify, establish, and enforce best-practices for backend development, devops, observability, and overall operational excellence
• Enhancement of our product's experience and reliability for users around the world by leveling up our localization support, reducing latencies around the globe, and ensuring global deliverability
• Leadership of technical initiatives and tactical-level project coordination
What you will influence. As a member of our engineering team, you will be expected to help our team continue to improve as we work together on new projects and incorporate the learnings from previous efforts.
• Contribute to the design, development, launching, operation, and support of our products and services
• Participate in, and contribute to improving, our teams processes and rituals
• Triage and refine bug reports, new feature requests, and potential new products from ideation to implementation
• Participate in on-call support for our products and service, and ensuring that you won't be needed
• Solving problems while exercising sound judgment and excellent problem-solving skills
• Influence our overall security posture and data compliance
What you'll bring:
• 7+ years of Software Development and/or DevOps experience
• A team-player mentality
• Love for creating quality output
• A willingness to do the hard thing for the right reasons
• Expert-level understanding of operational, devops, and backend development best practices
• Understanding of general software development, specifically how frontend and backend systems interact and work together
• Experience with cloud computing and hosting, AWS experience a strong plus
• Familiarity with the following technologies or patterns a plus: Kubernetes, Docker, Helm, Loki/Promtail, Grafana, Prometheus, Terraform, RTMP, WebRTC, Asynchronous Systems Design, Python3, Hasura, GraphQL, React/Typescript, Postgres, Redis
