POSITION OVERVIEW

The Chief Product and Technology Officer (CPTO) is responsible for Sundance Institute’s Product and Technology vision, roadmap and day-to-day operations, in strategic partnership with Executive Leadership. They will align the digital product roadmap and technology needs with Sundance Institute’s mission and vision to meet customer and employee needs. This includes the strategy, development, maintenance and operation for all of the internal systems and customer-facing digital products: Sundance Collab, the Digital Festival Platform, and our Digital Screening Platform.

The Chief Product and Technology Officer role requires a unique blend of hands-on technical and product skill, planning and organization, communication, and strategic vision. This individual will have the unique vertical reach to be not only current in their technology expertise and therefore credible with technologists, but also possess the intellect and gravitas to operate at the executive level. It is crucial that this person understand the business consequences of key technology decisions and can communicate effectively at all levels of the organization.

Reporting to the Managing Director, the Chief Product and Technology Officer will be a key member of the leadership team contributing to overall strategy, with specific responsibility for guiding digital transformation, product vision, integrating new systems for data and community member management, and ensuring all systems and services are outstanding in design, execution, and usability. Our CPTO is a full-time position that can expect to work extended hours, including early mornings, evenings, and weekends throughout the year. Travel to other offices and events will be required. There is a strong preference for candidates who are located within commuting distance to our Park City, UT, Los Angeles, CA, or New York, NY office. There will be ample opportunity to work remotely.

Top priorities include but are not limited to…
• Developing and maintaining Sundance Institute’s digital product and technology vision and multi-year product roadmap aligned with our mission and vision, including Collab and the Digital Festival Platform.
• Leading an on-site and remote Digital and Technology Services team, including product operations, across our digital platforms, including organizational structure design.
• Building strong partnerships across the organization to understand program and user needs.
• Building a strong competency in the organization in user experience and user journeys.
• Providing strong leadership to ensure the team has the skills, training, direction, feedback, mentorship, and support to grow and be effective in their roles.
• Implementing a transparent technology process utilizing Agile and other modern project management principles that promotes partnership, cooperation, and accountability.
• Creating and building a flexible product architecture to support Mobile, OTT, and web users, and with integration with third-party systems.
• Leading the product development effort for our annual Sundance Film Festival and other programs, including both digital and physical delivery.
• Growing and scaling Sundance Collab as a revenue generating business platform.
• Creating a data warehouse to provide the organization the information it needs to fulfill the Institute’s mission and vision and report progress regularly to stakeholders.
• Promoting the organization as a thought leader in the industry through relationships with peers, industry analysts, alliance partners, and other entities.
• Mentoring our product and technical leaders, ensuring that the organization develops modern digital and technology skills, and that the systems and tools support the strategy and businesses that the Institute might develop in the future.
• Maintaining the performance of our systems to meet demand while minimizing operating costs.
• Maintaining the security of our network, systems, and enterprise information.
• Creating and adhering to planned budgets, while making adjustments as necessary.

You have the following direct or transferable skill sets:
• Minimum of 10 years of experience managing digital product development, support teams, and technology.
• Experience in the current technologies and products, including cloud and SaaS.
• Experience and comfort leading product teams, both local and remote across multiple time zones.
• Ability to present to internal and external stakeholders including executive teams and vendors in both one on one settings as well as large format settings.
• Experience with leading projects with Integrations and APIs between systems, including 3rd parties.
• Excellent interpersonal relationship skills, develops constructive and effective working relationships at all levels throughout the organization.
• Ability to proactively anticipate and prevent problems.
• An understanding of how to separate and combine tasks into efficient work flow.
• Previous experience working with large festivals or other large multi-day events.
• Prior experience managing creative teams and technologies, media, and live online formats preferred.
• Bachelor’s degree in computer science or related field or related experience preferred.
